Hi Lorraine

Brothers Arthur White b.1880 and Frederick White b.1882 Oxfordshire are supposed to have gone to Canada c.1902 and died 1903. Can you find a record of their crossing and deaths? An American relative has said they died in MacDonald and are buried in Burnside Cemetery, 7 miles west of Portage La Prairie Manitoba.

Another brother Cecil White b.1876 m (Frances) Mercy Watts and had children Grace 1902 Fred 1904 Benjamin 1906 Florence 1908 Cecil 1910 and Ethel 1912. They are still in Oxfordshire 1911, but Cecil went to Canada c 1912 and sent for his family in 1915, and Cecil (the senior) d.1918 and is buried with his brothers. Can you find a record of their crossing or where they settled, probably around Portage La Prairie Manitoba too?

Thanks

Helen

Thankyou very much for what you have found. It seems right as Mary was known as Polly. I don't know anymore details I'm afraid, which does make it difficult as there are so many Evans. Wonder what happened to Fred?

Thanks again

Hi Lorraine,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, the info you found on Catherine Margam & John Harper's children, is correct, I've been going through all my paperwork to see if i've got any other info. that might help you locate James Margam. In a letter dated 19/11/1880 James was working in Aspen, (something to do with the coal & silver mines) he also visited Los Angeles. His brother William also out in the US (letter dated 7/12/1880) gives Williams address as 818 East Fifth St, Leadville, Colorado. I only have a box no. for James's address in 1880. I don't know if this is of any help to you. (My relie seems to have vanished after 1882)? I'm really greatful of any help with this. Many thanks,

ShelleyRose
I don't think the Edward Margam family, is mine.

Hi Lorraine,

Frederick David Townsend b.1847 married Elizabeth b.1845 in 1869 Hampshire England, and had their first 2 children Mary Matilda 1872 London Middlesex Ontario and Alfred Henry c.1875 Nottama Ontario, but by 1880 were back in Southampton. Frederick was deaf.

I would like to know when they travelled to Canada, when they returned, and whether they are on 1871 census at all.

Hi Lorraine,
Thanks for your offer!
I have 2 requests that I'd love help with. First is Louise Muriel Hillary Penrose (nee Collings) Moved to Canada sometime after 1974 and visited England in 1981 returning to Canada and dying after that. She was born in 1905 in Essex London.

Second is Abraham Renaud and his wife Justyn Wilhelmine Renaud (nee Schmidt) who left Germany sometime in the 1870's. for America with, I think 4 of their children, Bertha, Johann Friedrich, Anna, and William. Elise aka Lizzie was probably born either on journey or in America. Somehow they had their last child Carl Hermann abt 1881 in France before finally arriving in Brisbane Australia in 1884.
On the shipping document into Australia their name was spelt Renard. On other docs it has been spelt Renand so that may help you.
If there is any other info you need please let me know although I don't think I have too much else that would help.
Many thanks ahead for your efforts,
Kind regards
Sue

Hello Lorraine,
Many thanks for all the information, I did have some of it already . I am not surprised about not finding the shipping information as I have found it a dead end! I believe the date of immigration is in a family bible. I will check next time I am on the phone to her. It has been a puzzle to the family all over the years as he left his first son William in Glasgow. I will try to find out more about the Gavin Cadden you found in New Jersey, if it is him, his wife must have died earlier. Is the date of death difficult to find in the American records? Maybe he did not end up going to America at all, we might never know. I do appreciate you spending time on all this.

TopazGem

Hi Lorraine
The last info that I can find on her is in the 1911 census when she was staying with her brother Edward Porter In Birmingham. I am making a huge leap here but perhaps she emigrated with her brother and his family. I have no details of any marriage and , as I said previously, her death records show her as Jennie Porter (her maiden name).
Many thanks for your efforts.

Hello Lorraine,

Re your offer of checking the USA, Canadian records.

Below was a question I asked earlier today, in fact my first question on here. I got good help with the first part, but really need help to find where Gavin Cadden went after he left for America. Today a census in 1881 has shown him with a new wife Margaret Mc Cann and a little boy Gavin aged 2 years old....so I would think they all went to America together, but not sure. I would be grateful for any information you can find as this has been a long term family puzzle.

''I am looking for information about Gavin Cadden born Thornliebank, Glasgow 22.10.1846. His
parents were Margaret (nee Maxwell) and William Cadden who married Oct 1839. Gavin married Susan Brown they had a son William born March 1872. Susan died c 1875. Gavin , as far as we know he remarried but not sure when. Someone told me recently he was in the 1881 Scottish census, I have no access to that. The name Margaret Mc Cann came up from another person, maybe his new wife? We have the date 16.3.1883 as leaving for America. He did not take his son with him. William remained in Thornliebank,Glasgow all his life.

Gavin's Uncle, Gavin Maxwell born 1820, I think, went to America and settled in Utah. He shows in records there but I have looked to see if Gavin Cadden shows up there and have found nothing. I have started to search for ships to America but not found much and wondered if you can find where he went or who his second wife was or if he had more children.''

If I have done wrong by contacting you please let me know as I can see there are lots of rules re the threads, but I am still learning the ropes!
Regards,
TopazGem
