Hi Lorraine , Could you find any info on Samuel Henry Barber B 1872 Rushall Norfolk .I believe he emigrated to Quebec in 1893 would appreciate any census results .
I also think his brother Albert Murray Barber B 1887 Hoxne Suffolk may have gone to Quebec in 1904 .I appreciate its a common name but any info would be of interest. Many Thanks Tony.

Hi Lorraine

I have been trying to find info on the Evans family (Howell Evans born 1877. Llewelyn Evans born 1868 etc) and thanks to you had a great deal of success with them. I still have 2 brothers eluding me and I know you have already done a preliminary search for them, but at the weekend i found a reference for John Arthur Evans on the Ellis Island website and wondered if you could shed any further light.

John Arthur Evans, born approx 1866, arrived in New York aboard the Adriatic 5th May 1924. Listed as married, departed from Liverpool, nationality British, residence listed as Utica, USA. (At 15 John is listed on the 1881 census as a sailor).

Also 1930 US Federal census
Samuel L Evans, spouse Esther J, born abt 1871 - location ? 1930 - city, Cuyahuga, Ohio
and
1920 US Federal Census
Samuel L Evans, spouse Caroline, born abt 1871 - location ?, 1920 - city, District of Columbia
The L stands for Lloyd and he was born in Anglesey/Holyhead/Bangor, Caernarfon, Wales.

Many thanks

Vicki

Hi Lorraine - many thanks for finding what you did - Arthur the engineer is the correct one, Arthur Edward son of Percy is his cousin - don't think the Arthur from Kent is related. I'll have a look on the Canadian collections see if i can find him on there - he joined the army somewhere as we have photos of him in uniform!!
Thanks very much for looking for him.

Jalanne

Jalanne Report 3 Dec 2009 08:13

Hi Lorraine - thanks for your offer of lookups.
Arthur Slater was born in Leeds in 1894, son of Edward Wood Slater and Lucy Horrox. He travelled out to Canada, Toronto in 1913 when his sister died in tragic circumstances. We don't think he returned to England. Not sure if this is a big ask, but if you can find any travel information for him, between Canadan and England, between 1913 and 1921.
Arthur was hit by a train (and killed) whilst working for Hydro at Niagara Falls Ontario. 21st Feb 1921. We know he was a 'returned soldier' and presume he had been in the Canadian Army. If you could find any army records relating to him that would be wonderful - please.
He was unmarried, but believe he had left a fiance behind in Leeds.
If i'm asking too much then the war records are the most important.
Many Thanks - Judith

sorry nothing for a marriage for either of them unfortunatley usa is not like uk where all marriages are available it depends on the state as to what is available and they are hit and miss really

You could try familysearch.org under search drop down to pilot search, they are constantly indexing new records from usa and you may be lucky it is free too.

Hi Lorraine
Yes,that's the correct COOPER family in 1861. Its possible that they could have gone to Canada. 2 brothers of Jane COOPER (nee GILBERT) went to Ontario,Canada & settled in Holland Landing/Bradford,Ontario. One brother John later to went to Wisconsin.

I have more information on them if this could help in the search. And also Jane's Aunt ,Ann CHAPMAN (nee BATES), lived in Holland Landing.

Thanks
Kerri
