While researching casualties from my Prep School, Beaumont House, Heronsgate, I came across the remarkable story of D G M Geddes, tea planter, born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), son of Melville Gordon Geddes. He joined the Army in 1914, went absent without leave on April 23rd 1915. It appears that the same day he rejoined a different regiment, The Gordon Highlanders, 2nd Battalion, under the name Douglas Gordon and was killed at Givenchy in North France on June 18th 1915.
He had three siblings, Marjory Geddes born ca 1900, Elaine Geddes born ca 1901, and Eric M Geddes born ca 1905 who subsequently also became a tea planter. I would be interested in making contact with any descendants of any of these people in case they can add to the story or would be interested in what I have found.
