Hi Janice and Samantha

Found the death for Bertha E Hawkes. The reg is very difficult to decipher, it could be 4A 419 - or 4A 410

Bertha E Hawkes, age 49, Brentwood 1965 Q3 - ref. 4a 419 or 410

Have you got Cyril's death cert? I'm just wondering who registered his death, it would be another clue to follow up.

Hi Mary
Janice here, I have been working with Samantha and I know that the only person on the ER in 1974 was Cyril F Hawkes.
I have already said that Linda must have been below 21 and not on register or just visiting?
Samantha only checked that year, and I have asked her to check earlier years to try and locate Bertha E Hawkes OR older Siblings in past years.
I have checked from 1937 when Cyril & Bertha Married through to 1960 for Bertha's Death and for remarriage of either of them, with No Success.
Also checked deaths through to 2006 for Bertha E Hawkes without success, but did think I would check through from 1960-1983 in case I has missed Bertha E Hawkes death?
So think that is where we are so far, Samantha id ordering the marriage certificate and going back to Library for ER search before 1974.
Hope this helps you and others searching?

Hi

I just want to clarify one thing. Was Linda A Hawkes shown living at the address of Cyril and Bertha on the ER?

If not, perhaps it was because she was either too young to vote or wasn't living there long enough to register?

Hello All
Samantha has got the Marriage details for Cyril F Hawkes to Bertha E Freeman.
Plus the death details for Cyril F Hawkes, also confirmation of Cyril being at the address on the birth certificate giving Birth Mother's Name and other information.
Also got birth details for Cyril F Hawkes.
Not traced DEATH for BERTHA E HAWKES though, and she does not show on Electoral Roll in the year of birth shown on her certificate.
So it appears that maybe Bertha E Hawkes could be deceased prior to that year.
Or maybe the Couple parted?
I have been searching for death of Bertha or remarriage of Bertha but not located.
Just to try and spare you from searches that have already been undertaken.
Samantha will be pleased if anyone can help locate Bertha E Hawkes following on from the marriage which took place in 1937.

Hi Samantha

Just had a look and found Cyril Frederick Hawkes death in 1987 dob given as 28 Feb 1914.

He married Bertha E Freeman in Q3 1937 Wandsworth, Surrey.

Because of his age and the date they married, I wonder if they are your grandparents??

Hi There Samantha,

I agree with the other Tracey and order that cert.... it could quite easily be her father?

How old was he when he died?

hi samantha could you try looking for Cyrils birth in that area or try searching him on here to see if he's in anyones tree, I would order the marriage cert to bertha to find out their ages etc it would be a good start as you say this could be your birth mums brother.

So the electoral role shows that at the address i have was a cyril fredrick hawkes.he died in 1987 and was married to a bertha e hawkes.can't find her death though.Although her surname was freeman.Starting to wonder if these may have been aunt and uncle and linda hawkes was staying with them while she had me.Still digging. As this was a private adoption and i have the doctor and surgery address i may give them a try next, probably cant tell me much due to patient /doctor stuff but worth a try.keep u updated

tracey,i see your points.i ll still go to the records office as according to basildon, records that old are now kept there.I was going to see if the address on my birth certificate was where other relatives lived as well.Or if she went there just to have me,which often happened in those days.cheers

Samantha,

Unless you were baptised, which seems unlikely, you'll be making a wasted trip!

The local library to where you are born will house the electoral roll, give them a call they may be able to give you the answers over the phone...(i've done it loads of times)

The records office will house the electoral roll too, but thats all that will be there thats relevant to yourself.....

....however the local library will also have local papers, if like you suggested your mother may not have been compliant in the sexual act, there maybe a newspaper article or something else in the paper relevant to your conception/birth??

I'm not saying don't go, i'm merely suggesting you won't find anything more there than you could at the local library to your birth

Good luck

wayne/tracey,thats was going to be my next step.Make contact with basildon offices and find where there records are held then go have a look for myself.seems the most logical thing to do.keep u posted.
been in touch with basildon, looks like i need to go to essex records office in chelmsford.

Samantha,

Just checking in on this one.... only briefly tho...(just finished work)

It might be worth you calling the local library and getting an electoral roll check on the birth address.... there maybe a man listed there living with Linda.

It may be that 'Linda' isn't her real name and that she has changed her name to match her initials but not using her birth name? The electoral roll however will be her real name!

Got to be worth a shot... i'll take a look better tomorrow when i've had some sleep....

Minnie: samantha has the name L A Hawkes as her birth mother from the file. On the birth cert she purchased was for an un named child with surname hawkes and the mothers details where the Linda Ann Hawkes...thats why she is going with this...just to make it clearer :o)

Hi Paul

Thank you for that info, well you live and learn!....when I saw what you had posted I quickly rang my sister and got her to check my niece's birth cert (in 1985) and you are absolutely correct. I know my son's birth cert in early 1970's doesn't have that info, wonder when they started requesting the additional info about the parents came in? Good for us researchers though I have to say :-)))

Hi,
Samantha may well be correct in what she says. I've just looked at a birth certificate (1987) where the birth took place at the hospital.
It asks for the name and surname of the father and place of birth, the child's name and the name and surname of the mother and place of birth.
Finally, the usual address for the mother and usual address for the father if different from place of child's birth.

Hi Samantha,

I read your post with interest. I was also adopted, my parents were married and couldn't understand why I was adopted. I have found out that my parents were related and married falsly, I was taken away against my parents wishes.

Hope you find what you are looking for

its dangerous to assume - dont ever assume anything - find facts, check them & double check them.

not sure where on YOUR birth cert it will tell you where your mother was born! how have you worked that out?

have you applied for your adoption file - it may tell you more, possibly the circumstances surrounding your adoption.
