Sorry folks, especially Julie. I have checked my order information and I had put the September quarter 1887 for Edwin Paul Hazell when I should have put the March quarter. I have phoned GRO and was was told that they only check each side of a quarter given and correct it, as I found last week with another certificate. As I was 2 out, no result!! |

If you are reasonably confident, that the previous census records are of your family, then you might have to buy siblings birth certificates to find out Sarah's maiden name. |

Regarding my query about Hazell's, I have just had an email from the records office saying there is no trace of Edwin Paul Hazell born 1887 Pancras 1b 64. I have emailed them to inform them of the variations (Lazell, Layall) from Julie. Can anyone tell me what happens now? I'm thinking I might have to keep paying using variations until I get the right one!!!! As you know you lose £3 every time they do search!! |

On the 1881 & 1891 census records, the info would have been given by Alfred (& Sarah?). |

Sorry Julie, I meant that your Tasmainian names don't match the 1901 census I have. |

Hi All, thanks for the info so far. Perhaps I should have given more info. The only cert I have so far is the marriage of Edwin Paul Hazell, 31 years, Private, Middlesex Labour Battalion, (Father: Alfred Thomas Hazell, Builder) to Elizabeth May Diggins 21 years, (Father: James Diggins builder) on 30/7/1917. Pancras 1b 189. I have the 1901census with Alfred and Sarah with Edwin 14, which matches, at least b1887. There are 9 other children from Rose 23 down to Robert 8 mths. Is this the right Edwin, Pancras 1b 64? I'm afraid Julie that the tasmainian Hazell's don't match the one's from you! And Carolyn, I don't think there is a connection with Bristol? The Tasmainian connection comes from my sister's memory, but until she told me I thought the person there was a Meads, the male side!! |

There are memories of a member of the Hazell side of our family in the UK receiving a payment from possibly a relative in Tasmania in the 30's. Relatives may be from the marriage of Alfred Thomas Hazell 1863 and Sarah ? 1865? Living in St Pancras in 1901. My Nan Elizabeth May Diggins married his son Edwin P Hazell in 1917. He died in 1934. |
