When were the children from the first marriage born? Well, really what I was wondering is when did they stop being born? Sarah is clearly fertile so if she wasn't producing children, William is either dead or not around any more.

Mind is starting to think wider as nothing is turning up. Wonder if he didn't die but they split up? Have found a marriage in 1904 of a William Henry W Robinson in West Bromwich.

All guessing of course!

I think the daughter's married name is Hogan and that this would be the marriage:

Marriages Sep 1889 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

***Hogan Christopher W. Derby 8b 714
Marsh Elizabeth Ann W. Derby 8b 714
***ROBINSON Sarah W. Derby 8b 714
Willcott John Alexander W. Derby 8b 714

She appears to be 23?

Don't know that it helps though???

Have to sign off for now but will catch up in the morning.

Well, they DO seem to have had a child called 'Sarah A' in 1920:

I'm surprised about the lack of maiden name too. As you said, they usually show both. Wonder if she didn't say she had been married before, although I would have thought that was highly unlikely.

You are quite right Janice - I too have checked on FreeBmd and viewed the image - It DOES say Sarah A.

Looks like LancsBmd is wrong on this occasion.

Dea,
I noticed this and cross-referenced it on FreeBMD which has sarah A.

Dea Report 7 Jul 2009 18:32

According to Lancs Bmd (which is usually quite reliable), It was a Sarah J (not Sarah Ann) who married James Dinwoodie!

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1918
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
ROBINSON Sarah J DINWOODIE James Kirkdale, St. Mary Liverpool 2013WD/30/398

Also, if it was a second marriage, this site 'usually' gives the maiden name and the previous married name (nothing to that effect on here!)

Are you quite sure of all these details?

In the absence of anything else, I think I would order that birth cert with the father's name as a checking point. At least you would get some money back if it's not the right one.
Good Luck!

If you can find him on CWGC, please let me know!! I spent a long time looking for him which is what prompted the question about forces/civilian death.
