Thank you very much for doing the look up for me Lorraine. I don't recognise any of those names just at the moment but I will take note of them and they are likely to tie in later on in my research.

Thank you also for the good wishes for my operation. Everything seems to be ok and I am walking a bit better now, although I am still sore, but that should pass in a few days hopefully.

Church/Graveyard SPIDDAL
Description of Church/Graveyard This graveyard is the biggest in western County Galway and in the words of Walter Fitzgerald is ‘thickly covered with large limestone slabs’. The majority of memorials lie flat and while erosion was a problem most memorials were fairly easily read. The number of people who died aged 60 years is slightly suspicious. The graveyard contains an unique Mortuary Chapel that is blocked up. It has a plaque that states: “This chapel was built in 1776 at the expense of Stephen Martin Gentleman”, further details below. Walter Fitzgerald published three memorials in J.P.M.D., 1898, vol. 4, pp.59-60. The current church was built in the early 1900s and has no pre 20th century memorials. There are two new graveyards to the east and west of the village.

Church/Graveyard ARDBEAR
Description of Church/Graveyard Situated about one mile south of Clifden and mostly served the Catholic community. The quantity of large ornate high cross memorials indicates the increasing wealth of the Catholic merchant class from c. 1880. The older part of the graveyard is overgrown with mature trees, which may obscure earlier memorials centred around what appears to be a holy well.

Church/Graveyard KILBRICKAN
Description of Church/Graveyard This is situated about half way down the Rosmuck peninsula on a road leading off to the western part. There are two sets of church ruins and a holy well that has been recently in use. Many of the flags were covered by moss and grass and are inhabited by nests of red biting ants which only added to the joys of transcription.

Description of Church/Graveyard The church is in the middle of the southern part of the island and the graveyard is about 100 meters south of the eastern pier. There is a medieval church ruin called Cill Cheannannagh. There is also a modern graveyard about half a mile to the north of the pier whose earliest memorial is 1940. The church and graveyard are listed together for convenience.

Hi Lorraine. You still available for look ups? I am interested in a Francis Xavier Murphy born Dublin in early 1870's. Noticed an entry that similar named person had at died CLIFDEN (Connemara, Galway?) in 1941 aged 68 years. No ther info but wonder if he is known there or buried there? Thanks.

As Lorraine has'nt posted on this thread for 5 years, I doubt whether she is still doing look ups.
