Memorial details Church/Graveyard KILMEENA OLD Description of Church/Graveyard This graveyard is situated about two miles east of the Westport to Newport road. The new church and graveyard are about 2-3 miles west of this site and have no pre 20th century memorials. However the latter have some fine modern Celtic crosses to the O’Malley family with symbols of the Crucifixion as well as the O’Malley coat of arms. This type of symbolism is otherwise unknown in this part of the county and while the symbols follow the traditional pattern found elsewhere in Ireland the inclusion of a saw is unusual. County Mayo Type GRAVEYARD Memorial Have mercy O Lord on the soul of Margaret McManamon alias Coyne died March 20th 1859 aged 30 years Patrick McManamon died 11th June 1876 Erected by her loving husband Patrick McManamon
Don't know whether they are yours but thought I would let you see what there is Regards Lorraine

Hi there Lorriane
I have contacted you already i think but on a differesnt thread?? i have a census that indicated that my ancestors came from county mayo, and clare. If you are able to help that would be great. I am looking for any information about James mcandrew i have a uk census 1861 that says that he was 57. he also had three children: James born 1839, John born 1840 and anthony 1841. I have no knowldge of the boys mother at all or their marriage so any information you can find would be fantastic. I have been in touch with the geneology people in south mayo and the national archives in dublin but they could not help saying that there is no records of a family called mcandrew being in ireland. But i have two census saying that they came from ireland. can you help at all.
all the best and thanks for your time Mike

Memorial details Church/Graveyard KILBRIDE Description of Church/Graveyard Situated about a mile south of Newport on the road to Westport, there are church ruins in the site. A local tradition states that there was a conflict between two Saints, St. Bridget and St. Murchan who had a church on the Clew Bay. As a result St. Bridget cursed him saying that his church would be drowned while he cursed that her church would be abandoned and become a graveyard. Needless to say this happened though in the former case it was a result of sea level changes and in the latter the 16-17th century Reformation. However the tradition may reflect some long forgotten dispute. County Mayo Type GRAVEYARD Memorial Michael J. Deane died the 8th of April 1876 aged 41 years View full record - Memorials of the Dead Galway & Mayo
