I don't see any marriages for an Eva Edwards to a James Prince.

It looks like Eva was still having children with Harry after Norman was born.

Even had one named after her sister:

Births Mar 1926
Edwards Kathleen M Redgrave Ashton 8d 1083

Where are you looking for the Redgrave births where it also lists the mother's maiden name of Linwood?

1} Minnie B Edwards James W Prince Apr-May-Jun 1919 Poplar Middlesex

Please take the details for the 1943 and 1965 marriages and then I will edit them out.

Due to no reply on this I am editing them out anyway.

My suspicion would be that Eva Ada had a wartime fling while still married to Mr. Edwards.

There's a big gap in Edwards-Redgrave births between 1917 and 1923. Possibly longer if some of the Edwards-Redgrave births aren't our couple (those not in Ashton) -- the gap would be 1913-1923. And obviously some of them aren't ours, since there are Edwards-Redgrave births in Sep quarter 1913 in two different places.

I think Mr. Edwards may have been gone a while during that 1914-1918 bother.

Note the first birth after the 1911 Edwards-Redgrave marriage was Harry in 1911, and there was an Eva in 1915 in Bury who could be theirs too.

I think I may have got some credit there for something(s) Rose did -- I divert it to its rightful owner. ;)

Waving to down under -- the question is whether James Edmund Prince might have been Australian (I found no trace of him in NSW BMDs), or the couple went to Australia, or some such.

We may have sorted out Eva Ada Redgrave, but James Edmund Prince is still a mystery -- or a figment. ;)

And I'll echo Rose --

"I searched births Eva Redgrave with mothers maiden of Linwood and her index came up!"

-- you aren't scrupulously conscientious about telling us where you're finding these things!

Sources are needed, as a rule, to assess the info from them.

Morning All,

I have checked for the birth of a "James Edmund Prince" from the wide range of 1860 to 1900-1906
and can not find him in Victoria, South Australia or Western Australia. Queensland will not let me check births at the moment (will check again later) so I also checked New Zealand. I could not find him anywhere.
There were several plain James' , but no James Edmund

EDIT...finally got to check births in QLD... not there either.

Michelle - re "Also, if anyone could please check the marriage listing for James Prince to Edwards i would be very grateful. The only information it gives is that it is in the 1916-2005 records."

With not too much effort you can do this yourself (currently up to 1975 for sure, but usually after that too).

If I search Ancestry 1916-2006 for the marriage of James Prince to an Edwards, I get 3 hits.
The first is a 1919q2 marr that is transcribed in FreeBMD. Interestingly, I can't get Ancestry to recognize the quarter of registration - it gives me a box for month, and neither April, May or June finds it, although 1919 does.

If I search for Edwards marrying a Mr Prince, I get 58 hits, abt half for a male Prince, but if I search 1943 or 1965 there's only one female Edwards - I don't know they're both in q4 though.

Anyway if I go back to my 3 James Prince hits, I can re-search Ancestry, and pin down the year of registration.

If I actually needed the GRO ref, then I can "View images" at:
http://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl
and search for them there - at least for marrs up to 1975 (but they keep updating this - last week it was only to 1970).

mgnv - that's what Viv had done in her post above yours on page 6 -- she included the later Prince-Edwards marriages but then deleted them as they're personal info about living people. I don't know whether they were seen, but as I recall they didn't seem to be relevant.

I do suspect that looking for a Prince-Edwards marriage decades after the 1918 Prince-Redgrave birth is a bit pointless, myself. That does leave the coincidence of the JEP with wife EA in the US much later ...

But still, I'd focus on figuring out the Eva Ada Redgrave generation of Redgraves, and their identifiable children.

Hello Michelle.

I know it is a very late to reply to your post. My Grandfather Harry Edwards will be a half-brother to your Grandad. The boys she had to Henry (Harry) Edwards were Harry, Stanley,Graham,Derek, girls were Eva and Kathleen. Now Eva may of been called Sheila, my Grandfather said her fathers' name was William Prince. She was born in 1915 during WW1 and registered under the name Edwards. Eva Ada had two other girls Beryl and Glenys whom my fgrandfather said were fathered by a Thomas Bridge. There was a boy Alfred (Cliffard?) whom my granddad did not know who the father was. The last three were all registered under the name Edwards. Evas' husband was indeed in the British Army during WW1. He was in the Manchester Regiment and in the BEF.

Hope this helps.
