It's been lovely weather- we would have had a barbecue too, but have already had two in the last week! - just salad and quiche tonight for us.

This is a link to a picture of St James Church in Taunton where Richard was married, and William was Christened:
http://www.wsom.org.uk/Registers/TNSJ.jpg
On the marriage of Richard and Betty it says that Richard was of 'the Cornish Militia' - I'm not hot on military history (someone else maybe able to help), but I presume that he was living in Cornwall when he was drafted to the militia? (Googling brings up several timelines of the Cornish Militia which maybe interesting)
However, by the time his son Edwin (found by Christine) was born, he was listed as a joiner:
TAUNTON ST. JAMES Edwin Pomeroy: Richard/Betty: Tancred St.: Occ- Joiner 11/ 9 /1814
Charles Pomeroy b1817 in Christine's post appears to be the last of William's siblings- I can't see any more listed.

Helen and Christine Gee, you're stars! I have the details of William's first Marriage to Jane Hawkes Sayers and their children, including Clara who married William Pougsley and went to Australia. I am in contact with a GR member in Australia who posted the Curious Fox story. In the 1861 Census, HABROUK, Arthur Son M 6 1855 Scholar is Arthur Shubrook. I'm most interested in the Richard Pumroy/Betty Sherbrook, etc links. I have tried for ages to find out where the SHUBROOK came from. In the Marriage Cert for William and Charlotte (Harris), William's father's name is given as Richard, so I'm sure you've got the answers. Thanks a million. I'll study the info and report back.

This looks like his birth/ christening in Taunton St James:
>William Pomeroy : Richard/Elizabeth 25 6 1809 bn 7/6/1809
possible siblings (up to 1812- same parish):
>Francis Shawbrook Pumroy: Richard/Elizabeth 25 11 1801 bn 20/6/1801
>Elizabeth Pumroy: Richard/Betty 3 10 1802 bn 22/9/1802

I presume Betty's surname is where Arthur's Shewbrook/ Shubrook name originated from. Anything else Martin :)

This was on Curious Fox If it is not your post then you have another relative. Could be worth joining as it is not expensive.
POMEROY SEWERS SAYERS - Curry Rivel Clara POMEROY was living at Curry Rivel when she married William PUGSLEY there in 1853. I have found her in the 1841 Census in St Mary Magdalene, Taunton, with her father William POMEROY, a hairdresser, mother is probably deceased. She was 8 years old, with brothers William 6 and Edward 4. MY QUEST: I canot find her in the 1851 Census anywhere in England and Wales. Various spellings of POMEROY have been tried. Perhaps the enumerator wrote it quite differently. Her mother had relatives named SEWERES/SAYERS in Langport/Curry. Was she with them for the 1851 Census? Clara, husband & 2 children emigrated to South Australia in 1856 on the Aliquis.

My gr gr grandfather was William Pomeroy. He was born about 1811 in Taunton, Somerset (possibly St Mary Magdelen). His father was Richard Pomeroy. He married Jane Hawkes Sayer in 1831. They lived in Taunton and she died in 1839. One of their daughters married and went to Australia. William then moved to Langport, Somerset and married Charlotte Harris. I have both Marriage Certs and all Census records 1841,51,61,71,81,91.
I am trying to find a record of his birth in about 1811 and details of his father and mother. Thanks Martin
