William McCarthy 1865-1950

I am trying to find my grandfather William McCarthy.He was born in Cork about 1865.All I know about him is that he went to sea when he was about 14.He met my grandmother Elsie Page in Devon and they married in Cork in a church in the French quarter of the city.I am led to believe that this church no longer exists.They went on to have a daughter Irene Elizabethwho is my mother.William and Elsie divorced round about the beginning of the last war and Elsie returned to England and worked as a manageress of the Naffi and was on Salisbury Plain.My mother went to live with her aunt Lizzie who was a postmistress in Kilkenny(i think).She was WIlliam's younger sister.I know that he had some brothers as well but I do not know their names.I would be extremely grateful for any info on him. |
