Yes sorry , dont know why I put 1897 , I did mean 1887.
Witnesses were james garthford and sarah vickerstaff . They are not rellies as far as I know....but that doesn't say a lot. He married Margaret Stoker in the parish church in Tudhoe? in reg dist Auckland on 27.8 1917.
I was hoping someone might visit the church for me ,or do a search at the local records office as I am down in kent.

1917-30 would be about 1887+/- not 1897+/-

What about witness names could they have been his rels?

James was my maternal grandfather , but died when my mum was very young so she can't remember much.

One of these could well be him , there are so many james and john reays that it gets confusing . The olny concrete evidence i have is the marriage cert , giving james age as 30 , in 1917 , so that means he hust have been born in 1896/7. thanks for your help and if you find anything else I would be very grateful to you.

Yes somerset girl , that could poss be his 1st marriage , but I too have yet to find the death record for her.

His fathers name was given as john reay and said he was deceased.
