Hello. I have traced back as far as Henry George Kane born about 1838. He seems to have been married firstly to Mary Brook dob 1843, who died, and then Jane dob 1838, who also died. I suspect wives died in childbirth. He had several children by his first marriage - James, Isabella, Jane, William and Annie (whose married name was Sanson); he then went off to York and had two more children by Jane - Amelia (my grandmother) and George (I wonder what happened to George? George and Amelia are down as "strays from Yorkshire" in one document poor souls.... I have found details on the censuses so far, but do not know how to start really with Henry George Kane, 1838....and his ancestors. He was a blacksmith and lived latterly in Newcastle, but I get the impression from this site that lots of the Kanes are Irish descent...Many thanks to all who have helped me with Fosters!
