Nice to hear from you,once again thankyou for your help:On the marriage cert:I have robert james white living at 158 lots road chelsea in sept,1901.Roberts fathers occupation was a dock labourer,his name was Charles the cert: shows him as deceased.Vivienne one day i will get the hang of this computer???and will be able to look things up.THANKYOU FOR YOUR TIME AND PATIENCE.

This is the only birth that I could find that would remotley suit your grandfather for a birth near or in shadwell

If you send for from the GRO use fathers name of Charles for it and then if its wrong you will get half your money back and a message telling you it has not been sent as the father wasnt charles on it.

What was charles occupation on the marriage cert?
Then we can have a go at trying to locate your grandfather with him on a census.

Hello vivienne,just thought i would let you know that i recieved my g.fathers marriage cert,.You was correct with the information that you so kindly gave me.He married Jane slaughter on the 29/9/01 in kensington.The cert, also gives the name of my g.g.father Charles white(deceased) I have had no luck trying to trace him or his wife.,but i have been able to trace janes parents and siblings.Cannot find g.dads birth entry in 1880 at shadwell(tried1881 also)Do believe that shadwell comes under Woolwich Kent?.Sorry that it has been so long contacting you,but this computer as had six viruses(whatever they maybe)Just hope that it was not swine flu.thanks for pointing me in the right direction Robert.
