Hello Jackie,

Many thanks for your reply - re: JAMES CHAMBERLAIN (this should be the correct spelling I think). He won't be with Betsy Morris as she died in 1846 and two of her children, Jesse and Alice, emigrated to NSW, Australia (arrived on EMPEROR June 1851). I believe I have the other child, George in Stanwick as a lodger with Poole family in the 1851 census (sent to me).

When George Morris died in 1869 his son Jesse was the informant - the death certificate states that George's first wife was Elizabeth Chamberlain. I have a record of the marriage (at Little Harrowden in 1829)from the Northants Archives showing her name as Elizabeth Rivet(t). I am trying to find out why George is not on the 1841 census with his family but have this extra element of the different surname for Elizabeth before marriage on the Death Certificate. It might just be a slip of Jesse's memory at the time of his father's untimely accident - he fell from his horse while mustering and died within 15 minutes. As yet, I do not have Elizabeth's birth certificate.

Does this make sense - I'm sorry if not. As James didn't die until 1853 I wondered where he might be in the 1851 census. I haven't found a marriage or birth for him, although I have searched.

Many thanks for all you help.
Regards,

Reece

John could have his birth down as Tottenham/Edmonton or even Middlesex.

Hello Jacqueline,

Please could you look up JAMES CHAMBERLAIN on 1851 Census for STANWICK, Northamptonshire.

I found him on the 1841 Census living with my gggrandmother, Betsey Morris, and her family, including her father. He is recorded then as an agricultural labourer and I have found a death(which I think is his) in the name of James CHAMBERLAYNE at Stanwick on 1 February 1853 (age 38) making him born in 1815 in the National Burial Records on FMP. I cannot find a birth in Northants for him but I am wondering if he is a relative (or perhaps he was lodging with the family).

I have to leave my Mac for this evening but do PM me if you would prefer.

Many thanks for your kind help.

Reece
