I like the idea of a George Lathwell existing as I have one that fits the bill. All that is missing is Jane whoever marriage to George |

Thanks all for your input. I had this mystery a few weeks ago when I got the bc of Frederick George Lathwell. As I said previously there was just Jane Lathwell on there as the mother. After that I got the bc of Jane b 16 Oct 1864 thinking she was the mother but then I got the marriage certificate of Frederick George Lathwell which had the fathers name of George and it threw me. I'm thinking now that was just a made up name as said on here and Jane was the mother so the Christening of Jane, in the same year 1864(noted by Selena), is the same person. Incidently the mother of Jane was Sarah Lathwell and guess what no father again. :-) |

This could be his mother's birth (in which case she was not married and Lathwell is her maiden name):- |

Try lookingin marriages for Jane Lathwell if she was married then there would be a record. However if it wasn't her maiden name then it's a no go, but the otheres are right they would put a name there for shame sake, they even lied about age when marrying a older man I have it in my tree. Your grandfathers wedding is registered tho as you said. |

Martyn, if there was no father's name then it would mean that the child was illegitimate. |

I have a mystery someone may be able to help me with. My G. Grandfather Frederick George Lathwell was born 15 April 1885 in Leighton Buzzard. On his birth certificate there is a name of the mother of Jane Lathwell I assumed it was her maiden name as there was no father in the birth certificate. I got the marriage certificate of Frederick George Lathwell 31 march 1907 in Hendon and on there he lists his father as George lathwell(deceased) |
