I have some more info to go on, Michael had an older brother antony ernest price born may 1943 he died a few years ago. dont know about anyone else that reads this but im really confused. We're still unsure of michaels surname. his brother is a price, his adopted dad was bowles, his birth mom & adopted mom's maiden name was hinks. michaels birth mom died of heart failure while giving birth to michael. his adopted parents registered his birth

Thanks I'll have to order the birth certificate. If is the right 1 you & kathleen have found it might explain why I cant find any of his family on here. I just wish I'd asked his adopted mom questions when I was younger & she was still with us.

Looked for a marriage for Alice but none found fron Sept qtr 1944 - Dec qtr1948 inc

do you think they registered him as theirs as its not usual for adopted parents to make the first registration. Its not the right area but??

shirley, I have now found out his adopted parents registered his birth so he was registered michael joseph bowles. His mom was alice hinks not hicks as I thought ( I misheard name) His birth mother married someone with the surname price that we're assuming was his dad but he doesnt remember the 1st name. He is trying to remember what he was told when he was younger so a bit jumbled at the moment. which isnt helping.

Quite often an adopted child is given a completely new name but seeing he was adopted by a family member one would have thought they would keep some if not all of his birth name.BUT theres no male Hicks mmn Hicks registered in the Sept qtr which is where he should be ,unless he wasnt actually born in the part of the country he was brought up. have looked at the full records and theres no Hicks with any annotation by the name as adopted

shirley we dont know how old his mother was when she died, as far as we know he was born in birmingham but his birth might not have been registered in birmingham register office there is a register office in sutton coldfield near to where he was brought up not sure what district is/was classed as but is a possibility of being registered there. He was born in the july month. Im hoping his birth name was michael. but I am wondering if you can add a middle name after adoption.

What month was he born and where.Theres no Michael Joseph Hicks listed for 1944 so its possible that wasnt his birth christian names.If you can identify the area he was born we may be able to do a possible link to a birth name

Iv managed to get some more information. It looks like he may have been born a hicks the same as his mom. Bowels was his adopted surname & we still have no fathers name for him. His adopted mom & dad are deseased, The man he calls dad now was his adopted moms 2nd husband who never adopted him & knows nothing about micheals birth family. Apart from the birth mother was alice hicks & she died when micheal was very young.

Can't find any birth registration in that name

Im trying to find information on my stepdads micheal joseph bowles side of the family, all he knows is his mom was alice hicks who died when he was about 2 years old. He never knew his dads name. He was adopted by an aunt & uncle, his aunt was called lilian. the only records I can find at the moment is his marriage to my mom. we're new to requesting birth certificates so need to know what information would we need to get a copy.

any help would be much appreciated
