Boy you are lucky only finding 3 possibles ,,for now.
Start with the William f {1940} I would

I would send for them all as you wont know unless you see them.
But thats only what I did to find someones death,One a week I sent for.
7 in all.

But we had best wait for the other votes to come in first Sean.
Dont wanna oopset the other ladies now.
Give em 24 hours to vote and then do what you think is the best anyway...men normally do.

Morning Sean

I would look for William F Atkinson but take a note of any William/ W F Atkinson's in the area you are looking....That way you dont have to search the whole lot again if you dont find a William F Atkinson...

Good Luck

Hello Sean

Nice to see your still "at it"....how could we ever forget the story !! ;)

Gosh, your going to have quite a task...if you decide to trawl through year by year, quater by quater...I do think Janey has the right idea..

At the risk of being "hung" (by the others) did you ever find anything about Lucy/Lou?

Seems like the first line of attack, Sean! Unfortunately, Ancestry hasn't done deaths 1916-1984 yet -- but it probably shouldn't be long until it does. You might want to hold off until you can do the automated searching. ;)

Sean.

"poss marr for gertrude"

"chapman 1916" - this was to Gertrude Mace, in Smallburgh, Norfolk.
(Do feel free to give details so we don't have to go looking them up, eh?)

Unless the Mace-Atkinson marriage was bigamous and Gertrude remarried as Mace, this would not be her.

Did you search for Chapman-Mace births?
There are Chapman-Mace births in Smallburgh in 1917 and 1920. Robert and Margaret.

Did you search for a Gertrude Mace in 1911 in Smallburgh to see whether there was one who was probably the one who married Chapman?

There's this one:

MACE GERTRUDE HORACE F 1899 12 Smallburgh Norfolk

Births Sep 1898
Mace Gertrude Florence Smallburgh 4b 52

I'd say.

"carberry 1919" - this was to Gertrude Atkinson, in Hartlepool.

Did you search for Carberry-Mace births? Carberry-Atkinson births?
There are Carberry-Atkinson births in Hartlepool 1920-1926.
Your Gertrude's birth surname was Mace.
So I think not, eh?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 18 May 2009 18:45

There are 4 Lucy-s with mother Mace born 1911 onward:

Births Mar 1915
Rodgers Lucy A Mace Holbeach 7a 732
Births Mar 1916
Sellars Lucy Mace Doncaster 9c 1596
Births Mar 1919
Dunn Lucy M Mace Cheadle 6b 423
Births Mar 1921
PRENTICE Lucy M Mace Holbeach 7a 725

Do any of them look likely?

Regardless of whether the mother was married before, her birth surname should be shown on the birth record. So Mace is what I searched for.

Sean, you can do FreeBMD. Rather than just ask the questions, do the searches!

Look for a Rodgers-Mace marriage 1900-1925, a Sellars-Mace marriage, etc.

If you find the marriage, was the Mace a Gertrude? (If it should turn out that the Atkinson-Mace marriage was bigamous on his part, she might have married as a Mace.)

One for free: Rodgers-Mace was in 1904, and no Gertrude.
