Hey Margaret -- how come you're not stuck in to the Bethnal Green Tube Disaster??
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1134367
There I go, spamming again. ;)

Yeah, go ahead and delete it -- leave something there though so you still have the thread marked! I think Sally has retired for the night. This started here:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1133826
and turned out not to be about her grandmother at all. ;)

For ref, the details of the birth Sally referred to in the first post:
Name: Annie C Grosvenor Year of Registration: 1914 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Mother's Maiden Name: Von Gfug District: Grimsby County: Humberside, Lincolnshire Volume: 7a Page: 1134

Margaret, Sally has the bug and I was going to let her get the actual search results herself. ;)
She's done marvellously well already for a total newbie!
edit -- ah, you're right, Camilla's hadn't been fixed, just Robert's.
Sally -- next you learn how to submit corrections and postems to FreeBMD. ;)
|
Okay, now, to find the marriage, go to FreeBMD and search for
all events surname VON G* county Monmouthshire
It's been mistranscribed, of course.
So were various of the others -- you can see what they looked like before they were fixed at FreeBMD.
Von Gpug for Robert Von G_ug for Camilla
Lucky they'd been fixed before you looked!
That's a very interesting name Annie had when she married Cuno. I guess it wasn't all that uncommon (looking at search results for the name at FreeBMD), I just have never heard it.
I don't see Annie's birth, though ... I'll let you go looking for that one in the censuses.
|
Brother with same name:
Births Sep 1897 Von Gfug Cuno Julius V Cardiff 11a 447
Sally -- just go back to FreeBMD and search for
all events surname VON GFUG
and you'll see all the children's births.
But not the parents' marriage ...
|
Oh yes, dad's name.
The "son" that has been added at the end of his given name is actually the "von" that goes in front of Gfug.
I don't know what I would read the given name as. Starts with a C.
Coud be Ceeno or Cuno ...
|
Well, finding that at Ancestry was fun. Found Camillia by her first name and birth details.
Name: Camillia Cpig Age in 1901: 8 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1893 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: Cunoson Mother's Name: Annie Where born: Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales Civil Parish: Barry Town: Barry County/Island: Glamorgan
Cunoson Cpig 39 Annie Cpig 32 William Cpig 10 Camillia Cpig 8 Annie Cpig 7 Alice Cpig 5 Cuno Cpig 3 Victor Cpig 2 Albert Cpig 6 months
I'm agreeing with lulabelle that this is certainly them; will just check the image. Well, it could say Cpig. ;)
But when you know what you're looking for, it says Gfug. Without question.
Well done, lulabelle.
Now, we need the parents' marriage? Must have been in Wales, since mother Annie was born in Monmouthshire.

Sally had another thread that turned out to be about something quite different, so I am starting this one for her to continue the question about Camilla's family.

In the other thread, lulabelle added:
Possible 1901 census
Crig Cunson 39 Head Water Clerk Naturalized British Subject, Germany 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig Annie 32 Wife ? Newport, Monmouthshire 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig William 10 Son ? Newport, Monmouthshire 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig Camillia 8 Daughter ? Newport, Monmouthshire 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig Annie 7 Daughter ? Bath, Somerset 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig Alice 5 Daughter ? Barry, Glamorganshire 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig Cuno 3 Son ? Barry, Glamorganshire 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig Victor 2 Son ? Barry, Glamorganshire 36 Merthys Street, St Nicholas Crig Albert 6 M Son ? It looks like Von ???? on the original census page, but has probably been mistranscribed....maybe someone else can have a look and see.
I have had a look on the 1891 but can't see the family on there...again maybe someone who has an ancestry sub can do it on there...

Sally replied:
i was always told they came from prussia and were aristocracy this seems fabrigrated now thankyou but the father seems german what do you think ? thankyou for finding it for me sally
-------------------------------------------------
Sally -- Prussia was the old term for Germany, before our modern nation-states and borders.
It just sounds better when you say Prussian. ;)
So here's your new thread, and have at it!
