Hi all I have Jamesina, Wiliamina in my trees. Shame they did not stick to the old fashioned naming patters. I picked the birth in 1906 as this is the year that Evelyn was told her mum was born and she just might have been telling the truth, the birth cert would give fathers name and occupation aswell as mothers name and if they were married would state when and where. It may be a longshot but nothing ventured.... Regards Jackie

Evelyn - I am so sorry to hear your mum said that - trouble is you always remember the worst bits.
I did something silly when i was around 12/13 & I always remember my mum saying I would turn out to be no good just like your rotten father. It was the first time she ever mentioned him in front of me & it always stuck in my memory.
Since doing my family tree I have found out a lot about him & he wasn't that nice a person in some ways - but I would never have said that to my daughter.
Some families are strange - but I do agree - perhaps it was said to her & because she was a girlshe was shipped off away from the family & she always resented it, she still shouldn't have said it herself though.

I rather thought that they would all have to be looked at as well Cynthia,as we are not certain of her birth year. Thats a few to be seen ,and I am a bit financially embarressed at the mo ,what with christmas and a surprise 50th party to pay for,for Him in Doors..
I now have a phone number for Goddard -Fenwick that is current, but I need to speak to someone else first to see if he is still alive, but they are out.

Hear hear Jackie. I am sure Evelyn has been a wonderful mum and is much appreciated.
The only boy/girl name I can think of with my lot is a Georgina which I think is v.pretty. Donaldina however? Not on your life.
I thought I was registered with SP but I must have expired or something (well my details I mean). It isn't acknowledging my password. What is special about the 1906 one you saw or is it just the date that grabs you?

HI Cynthia
I have a lot of female ancerstors who I think were "meant" to be boys as they have their fathers or grandfathers name adapted and I have always thought "what a shame" their is nothing like making it more obvious that the family did not want girls and I have to admit if I had been given a male name with "INA" simply stuck on the end I would have changed it. There is a birth in 1906 so I am wondering if anybody has spare credits on SP to look at image unfortunately I only have one left and 5 is needed.
Fingers crossed somebody will do a look up who knows it may just be the right one.
Evelyn
I cannot think of anything more horrible than a mother teling her daughter that she wanted a son but it makes me wonder if this is because she was told the same then shipped off to some releative simply because she was a girl and never really go over it. I suppose you will never know the truth. But atleast you did not make the same mistakes and I bet that your children are happy in the knowledge that they have a mother that loves them dearly.

I understand Viv, I have always told my son and daughter how much I love them, something my mother NEVER said to me, I was always the odd one out, never felt that I belonged. Still I have survived and made a good life for myself in spite of all that. I did used to feel envious of my friends that had a happy home life though.

Some mothers have a lot to answer for as I know myself. They leave you with more sadness than joy sometimes. I do hope I have not left my sons lke that...

Donaldina? Goodness me....if you hadn't produced that list Jackie, I would have thought you had made it up. Do you know, it could be right though because you can almost make the name Diane from it can't you?
Maybe girls with this name were called Dina (deena or diner) for short??
And if her parents wanted a boy???
Stranger things have happened.
Anything is possible on this thread!!
hmmmm. more to think about....poor Evelyn, you must be x-eyed with all this.
Night night. sleep tight.

As there seem to have been Donalds in the family perhaps she was Donaldina, perhaps her parents were like she herself was as she never wanted a daughter she told me, she only wanted sons.I was much saddened when she said that to me, and here I am at 77 and still remember that

Oh my goodness my head is in a whirl, I wish I was called Goddard Fenwick and I would be close to solving the mystery of Diane. When my son and I went to Register House in Edinburgh they said they didnt believe my mothers name was Diane , they suggested it could perhaps have been Dolinda or something like that and she chose a different name for her self
