No offence taken wisechild, any suggestion is gratefully received. I really think she was never D L M. I always thought it very strange that she never mentioned her mother,I wonder if she died in childbirth??. I know mother told lots of fibs as I stood many times and listened while she told people things that I knew to be untrue, most times quite unnesscessary lies, she just seemed to thrive on lies. In my opinion she should have written books as she had a wonderful imagination. Thank you so much for your interest and help I appreciate it Kind regards Evelyn

Just a thought Evelyn. No intention to offend. Obviously you know your family better than I do. Seems like everyone is clutching at any clue they can think of. Hopefully you´ll get there eventually.

Diane died in July 1952 in Weymouth so could not have been this Donaldina who lived quite a lot longer. Dianes death was registered by my father, HRJ Roy
I honestly believe mothers name was one she chose for herself otherwise surely she would have been traced by someone after all the searching that has been done, she married in the name Diane Leslie Macleod as I have the marriage cert

Just seen Jansmith´s post. Do you think she was Donaldina? I wouldn´t fancy going through life with a name like that & Diane is not so far removed. Neither is a bit of poetic license with her age.

And before she married a Goddard, Christophine Fenwick was in Sussex (1851) and Hampshire (1861). I too have have been wandering amongst the G F s! In 1881 there is Gwendolen with the rest of the family:

In 1901 she is working as a probationer nurse at the Bradford Union workhouse ( she might have nursed my Great Grandmother who had a child there in Dec 1900 and died of TB there in 1902!):
1901 England Census about Gwendolen Frances Fenwick Goddard Name: Gwendolen Frances Fenwick Goddard Age: 20 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1881 Relation: Officer Gender: Female Where born: Devenport, Devon, England Civil parish: Bradford Ecclesiastical parish: Horton All Saints County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England

Thanks for your input both of you. Welcome aboard!
It's quite a story isn't it ?
I too think the Fenwicks are involved somewhere but FBG isn't so sure. There has been a thought about Evelyn FG's Will and it's possible it may be sent for.
It's look pretty definite that Diane wasn't her real name....but what was.....? sigh....
I have been mapping out the Goddard/Fenwicks and they are a very nomadic bunch..........Canada, Jersey, London, Warwickshire, Devon....you name - they lived there! Just hoping to spot something which will give a glimmer of light........
We press on....... :-D

Like Sally. I haven´t had any input in this before, but without wishing to rush in where I know nothing, has anybody found a will for Evelyn Fenwick Goddard. If Diane´s income was coming from her, Diane might be named in the will. Personally....& it´s just a feeling....I don´t think Diane was her real name.

If I get some spare time today, I think I will wander amongst the G-F's to try and get a clearer picture of them and maybe establish a firmer link to Diane.
All ideas welcome. Gather round.
Maybe I should commandeer my dining room table for the task :-D
Then we can submit any findings to FBG ;-)

LK, I remember looking at that link before and yes, it's definitely part of the G-F family. Not sure where it leads though.
If anyone has a Scottish hunch and would like to check some records, I have a few Scotlands People credits left which I am willing to offer. Pm me for details. :-D
