There are 12 WW1 Officers files at the National Archives for R Macleod/McLeod. Will look at them (gradually - it might take a while!) |

Vanessa I read about that too there is lots of info on Roderick MacLeod but there was also a Robert MacLeod who received the Military Cross and Distinguished Service Order and he served in the 8th Seaforth Highlanders but there does not seem to be a service record for him on Ancestry. Maybe someone with a good knowledge of searching both old English & Scottish Newspapers during the war might be able to find out about why this soldier received his DSO & MC. |

I'm pretty sure somewhere in this thread was mention of a acting major, Roderick Macleod ?? Anyway, doing a general search, I happened across the attached where somebody was looking for a Robert Macleod who appears to have been said Roderick - was he ruled out previously? |

Apparently the India Office records will be online soon - I assume BMD's. Perhaps we can find Diane under a different name, or a sibling or her father - well, anything! |

I have a medal card I downloaded for Robert MacLeod/McLeods a while back there are a few on it and it interests me for one reason in that I can't find any other records for these men which I would assume they were destroyed during ww2 by fire/water damage. Diane you are right men did transfer from different regiments as I found with my own family members. I can send the medal index card in pdf if anyone wants to view it, many of you might already have seen it at national archives, just send me a direct message or leave a post here. |

I was really confused by the fact I grew up believing Robert MacLeod was in the Black Watch, my father then said he was in the Gordon Highlanders and more recently the Seaforth Highlanders. I was just playing around on the net and found a page on the Scottish in WW1, it pulls on those regiments together which was reassuring., but then at the bottom the page it said: this page is dedicated to men like Robert MacLeod who was commissioned into the 8th Seaforth Highlanders...... |

Has anyone tried the Angus McLeod archive? There are records of MacLeods living at Calbost in Stornoway. Ishbels, Murdos, Donalds but no Robert and no Diane, but then again some unnamed infants. |

I've been through the 1911 census for 1 Bn Seaforth Highlanders in India. Have made a list of the officers - no Macleod. There are various men with the surname Macleod in the lower ranks, though, but none named Robert. |
