Glad to see this thread is very much still alive. I've just renewed my membership after a few years off but I continued to check this thread. Evelyn, hope your well and I was sad to read your husband has gone to sleep.

I'm going to re-read the full thread again just to refresh my memory and see whats been found.

Evelyn a while back I had a dream that your mother was sent to Scotland during the war( I actually had several weird dreams about your mother a few years ago), I wonder if this actually happened!!! If taking her year of birth 1905/06 or even earlier it would tie in with her age of being about 12/13 years of age and being out in the peat fields with her cousins, she could of been sent away in 1914 age 9.

Hi Traciey - nice to see you :-D

Things have been quiet on here for a while but, fortunately, I am in contact with Evelyn most days. I will let her know that you have posted again.

Unfortunately that old bat FBG, suffered a slight stroke last week and is taking things easy at the moment. How many times have I told her that hanging upside down will do her blood pressure no good at all...... ;-)

So, I suppose, this thread will gently tick over until someone comes up with another idea......and then off we will go again.........

:-) :-) :-)

Thanks Wisechild - to be honest, we have looked at so many Robert MacLeods, that I would need to go through the thread again to see those we have eliminated.

Alice and Olivia aren't ringing any bells though.....I will check and see how Viv is and if she can remember anything.

Thanks.... :-D :-D

Cynthia.
Don´t I know!!!
That´s why I didn´t get too excited. The street name vaguely rings a bell, but I´ve got London ancestors too & at my age I get very confused with who is who.
Happy Easter to all anyway.

Has anyone tried searching www.London-gazette.co.uk?

I am now hooked after reading the thread for hours....so far I am up to page 51.....so quite a way to go.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 16 Apr 2013 13:50

Hello Susan and welcome aboard... :-D

Has anyone tried search the London Gazette? To be honest, I really don't know but it would certainly be worth a try. Thanks for the idea.....as you can see, we try absolutely anything on here.

I have been down the route of trying to find out who Evelyn's other Godparents were in case they were relations...............(one lives in hope).

Anyway, after a couple of attempts, I discovered which church has Dafforne Road in it's parish (most baptisms in those days took place in the local parish church).

I have had two very pleasant phone calls with the incumbent, who has personally looked through the records for me. Nope.....no sign....but we had a very nice conversation :-D

He has suggested another parish which may be likely, so I am getting onto that later. I had wondered if her parents had taken her back to the place where they were married but, as it was in a registry office, I was out of luck there too.... :-(

I am making a note to go online with the GR expert tonight!!!

Cynthia. Just a thought. Maybe she was baptised in India as she said she was born there.
My 3xg grandfather was baptised by the army chaplain in France at the end of the Peninsula war, having been born there, but was re baptised with 2 of his younger siblings when the family returned to Birmingham.
So maybe the parents didn´t bother with 2 sets of godparents if she´d already been baptised once.
They seem to have been a funny lot anyway. It beats me how someone can suddenly appear in their 20s leaving not a trace of any previous life.,

jansmith Report 16 Apr 2013 14:21

yes you have to ask the question "is this her real name"!! :-)
