Quoy coincidence or what??
I find that my beloved Grandad Roy (dads father) was born St Georges, Hanover Square, same place as your Macnab lady. Very small world.

I have no idea of the address for Ians birth, only know he was born in London 1930

Hi all.
before I wear my very inefficient typing finger to a stub, do we already know the antecedents of Evelyn Fenwick-Goddard.
Have tracked her mother´s family back to 1841 if it´s not already known.
Have to go out shortly but will be back tomorrow.
Incidentally, Evelyn never married. She was always Goddard-Fenwick for some reason.

I can see I will have to go and give that FBG a good waking up soon!

Quoy, I checked that link re the poor school and saw that it was written by W. Foulgar. This is Willie Foulgar who has been very helpful in searching school records for us. Nice guy.

Wisechild......we have gone back quite a way with the Fenwick/Goddard combine thanks. It's a few pages back and, from what I remember, I don't think any of the FG girls married.

Off to see if FBG recalls that marriage..........wish me luck - she's probably knocking a wall down somewhere!!

Jansmith....
That marriage does not register in my brain and nor does the cert reside in Evs file...It will within the week to rule it out if nothing else...
Sending for it in a short while.

Kathy
Good thinking..Thats a new one that has not been looked at and well done Quoy for getting a link to that school...

I have not been knocking down walls today..Its rebuilding now and I tell e that I is getting too old for much more of that malarky even with help .
After shed is finished then we start on putting up a conservatory that was going cheep cheep....Not a huge one but perfect for us... I can even move my puter and stuff in if I want and look out over the garden as well as the fields then..... :-D

Trouble is now that I dont have much time to follow some of this up but you lot are doing stirling work on behalf of Evelyn....

Off to send for that MC...

So maybe you lot can say who is going to do what so I or Cyn dont end up doing things that you are doing...

I did search SP and English 1911 again and have now looked at all possibilities for a Jean Macleod on SP and none are her...So it does look as though she may have gone abroad....But sooooooo many to look at between 1910 and 1914 on FMP that I have only been through 10 so far and none are her and if they are they do not give an occupation..
Will carry on going through them when I have more time at the weekend..

Nope I wont as son and grandson (Master Hurricane)are coming friday to monday..So next week it will be..

Back to NI numbers....Cant remember who brought it up but....Anyone know how to find out where one was issued and how to find out what Dianes number was and lots of other questions...But basically how to find when and where it was first issued and how to find out what her number was..

Would Springfield hosp still have it on file I wonder?
Although they did tell me all they had on her was her name and the dates she worked there..
But I have not actually seen her file..They wouldnt let me..But I can try again now with the letter I have from Evelyn giving me permission to access anything to do with her mother...Now where have I put that...Eeeeeeeeek...

And toes...........

Jan I too thought that Kathleen McDowell may have been the one at Dafforne Rd. First found her in 1911 then tracked her family back. Kathleen was born Tooting but her mother Janetta/Jenetta nee Blair was born Devonport which has connections to the Goddard Fenwicks. Janetta's parents were Esther and James Blair and he originated from Scotland. He was a Boiler Maker & I wondered if he worked primarily in shipyards because they are in Liverpool, then Pembroke Docks, then Devonport. Will post census details if anyone thinks that would be useful.

I also did a lot of tracking back on the Goddard Fenwicks. Evelyn GF's mother, Christophine Goddard nee Fenwick was the daughter of Emily Fenwick nee Busfeild. Emily's mother was Sarah Ferrand ( after the death of her Busfeild husband she reverted to her maiden name in order to inherit the Ferrand estate.) I've tracked around but so far not found any connections within those families to any Macleod.

Evelyn GF's sisters both became nuns.

I have also been trawling 'phone books and directories 1924-1938 to see which Macleod's were living in the Tooting area. One looked a good poss but then I dismissed it. Will post details tomorrow -too tired now!

I have just been reading the Australian service record for Murdo Macleod
he joined up in 1915

He had previously served for 5years with the 3rd Seaforth Highlanders at Fort George

Unless Diane worked after her marriage, she wouldn´t have had an NI number. They weren´t issued until 1948 when the welfare state started.
What struck me as odd about the Goddard Fenwick name was that it was the continental way rather than the English one, i.e. the father´s surname first, followed by the mothers, whereas normally it would be the mother´s surname first then the father´s so that the children would have been Goddard .

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 28 Sep 2011 08:04

I'm pretty sure that was the right Kathleen Julie. I'm also pretty certain that it wasn't a co-incidence that Diane ended up at that address in Wandsworth.

The G-F family history is quite interesting and I vaguely mapped it out a few weeks ago - Christophine's husband, George Goddard was a Paymaster in the RN.

Budleigh Salterton comes into it somewhere as does Canada, Jersey, Stoke Damorel and Keighley!! They certainly got around.

But.......what is the missing link???????

Thanks for that Chris, whoever taught Diane did a good job, she spoke beautifully and had a very extensive vocabulary. Seems to me she wasted her life as with the vivid imagination that she had she could have earned a fortune as a novelist

Thanks Chris.....anyone can throw anything into the pot at any time.....it's a complete stew at times and, who knows, just a smidgeon of information could turn it into a feast!

It sounds as though Diane had a good education if she spoke well and had an extensive vocabulary.

Evelyn, when Ron has a sleep today, why don't you go and have a lie down too! It won't help things if you get over-tired......my mum used to say 'you'll be neither use nor ornament'! :-D

Buddleigh Salterton is where Christophine Fenwick was born.
Christophine jnr was born Leamington Spa, William, Evelyn Emily & George were all born Jersey,& there was a Gwendolen aged 4 months on the 1881 census, b Soke Damerel where the family were living, but haven´t found her after that.
Christophine was a widow by that point & she died 30.11.1905. Admin of her will was to Christophine jnr (spinster) & her estate was 957.8s.6d.
I was intrigued to see in 1901 Kennington, Lambeth that Emily´s occupation was Cat Fancier!!!!. The mind boggles.
Christophine snr was b in Devon abt 1850 but her parents Emily Lucinda Busfield Ferrand & Christopher Cresswell Fenwick were married 2nd quarter 1840 in Keighly Yorkshire.
No links to the MacLeods there then.
