Cynthia Report 23 Jul 2013 11:52

You lot ARE wonderful! Thanks so much.

If you could just keep an eye on any suggestions that come through which require a census search, that would take a big weight off my shoulders.

I seem to be good at obscure searches rather than the straightforward stuff!! :-D

Thank you again...... <3

Annie and Cyns

I offered to do census look ups and went to the list on 102 ... noting that no 11 you are doing/done Ann

I expect it is me being thick .... but whom/ what am I looking for on the censuses please

Just give me a number please

Here's the list i think you are talking about

1 Although there appears to have originally some doubts in the thread about whether the 1Bn Seaforths were in India at the time of Diane’s birth, they were there in 1908 as men of that battalion were awarded the 1908 India General Service Medal ( page 102*)

2 They were also in India on the 1911 census which also lists women and children in the barracks (page 28)*

3 Various suggestions of men in the 1Bn Seaforth Highlanders have been put forward as possibilities, both men named Robert MacLeod/McLeod and Robert Leslie including men who were killed in WW1 -not officers, though, men with WW1 Medal cards, men with service records on Ancestry for WW1 – not officers - and London Gazette entries (See pages 1, 2, 16, 56, 62, 65, 66, 96 )*

4 Medal records for men named Robert McLeod/Macleod prior to WW1 have been searched (pages 83, 98, 102)*.

5 Some passenger list entries have been mentioned (pages 50,93, 102)*

6 Some census entries have been suggested (pages 2, 25,91,)* and an electoral roll entry (page 92*)

7 Pre WW1 service records have been searched (pages 46)*
Suggestions for pre WW1 officers (page 25,82)*

8 Army marriages have been searched (page 65) and Army births (page 47)*

9 Some findings on officers of the Indian Army, although of course the Seaforth Highlanders were British Army who just happened to be serving in India (pages 14, 99, 102)*

10 Findings on Scotland People in War Returns (page 14)*

11 I did some searching (in 2009!) of the Army Lists which I sent by pm to Evelyn
Had a look at some Army Lists today. Quite time consuming, so couldn't look at many*

ANNIE LAURIE

or Am I at the WRONG list ..... :-D :-D

Renes

If you can do Item 2, please. Going through the 1911 census of all those in Seaforth Highlanders in India and checking to see if there any girls (some wives and children are with the men) of the right age who might be Diane - I wouldn't worry if surname isn't Macleod or christian name isn't Diane, but a list of possibles would be good, if only to rule them out!

Wish we could get rid of the stupid tick.
Every time I see it, I get all excited, thinking she´s been found.
Hope springs eternal ;-)

Cynthia Report 3 Aug 2013 08:39

Good morning friends... :-D

That's such an interesting name too........what a pity nothing came of it. I had visions of 'Dora' deciding that the name was too plain and turning it into a more romantic 'Diane' :-D :-D

Wisechild.......if and I say IF Diane is ever found......I promise I will put it in headlines on a brand new thread!!! :-D

Thanks again everyone. <3

Cynthia.
If, as you said earlier, Evelyn is no longer a member of Genes, does that mean she has given up in despair?
I do hope not.
The rest of us are still hooked.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 3 Aug 2013 11:33

No, she hasn't given up in despair wisechild, although her hopes aren't high at the moment. She simply hasn't anyone else to research.

She watches this thread though and is so very grateful for everyone's help. I speak to her on FB and, just this last week, she celebrated her 81st birthday. I forgot to mention it on here......twit that I am.... :-(

wisechild Report 3 Aug 2013 12:10

You´ve just reminded me Cynthia.
Her birthday is the same day as mine.
Wish her belated Happy Birthday from me & tell her not to give up hope.

Did anyone else see the recent article in the Daily Mail (either Friday or Saturday, can´t remember which)about a young soldier from Skye called Roddy Macleod who was an escort to Princesses Elizabeth & Margaret in the early 1940s?
Any relation I wonder?

Eton-educated Army captain Roderick Cameron Robertson-Macleod
Yes I saw that article and wondered if anyone in the Royal Family knew of a Diane Macleod
(well someone must have known her!!)
