Hi Kelly glad you are back online sorry to repeat but on your mothers birth cert is there any middle initial for father and the info you posted about army info is that what you found on the papers from your uncle or have you posted the details from the ancestry site? Also as you have marriage certs was he down as single on the 1st one?

you have linked him to Thomas in 1901 but have you thought that his father could have died by 1901 ?

i see on the army records we are looking at that it says he has 2 fingers missing on right hand would your mum know if that was right for your Walter

on my mum's birth cert it Thomas H King father. WALTER was her grandfather, and yes it stated he was single in 1912 on his first marriage cert.
and yes i found the war papers in my uncles paperwork and not on the internet.
no i dont know if thomas was dec in 1901
there is another tree with him in it which i have, it also has WALTER with his parents Thomas King and Mary Ann Wells i am not sure if this is correct, i have ask the people but they said they got it from other people so i am not to sure its right

There are a number of Thomas H King births in 1915 - are you 100% certain that you have picked the correct one?

I'm not doubting you, Kelly, just trying to ensure - for your sake - that the info you have is accurate

i have all 3 childrens cert and yes its the right one, my mum got it when her mum died in her paperwork, his birth was 13/02/1915

my mum can remember Walter when they used to play hide and seek she laughs as she said she frightned the life out of him when she said boo
but she was only 6 when he died and dosent remember him having fingers missing, i surpose when you are a small child you dont look at things like that, but this war paper must be his, my gran must have given it to Harry at some time.

well kelly it looks like your grandfather may have had a 3rd wife , the ancestry records match the details you posted for his army service and it gives wife and children i have posted , i did notice a change of address for his wife it looks like 48 Barnwell road Brixton. You could try search trees on here to see if there is a match with Nelly(ie) and children perhaps a link to them might give you some answers

well what a little devil he was, thats prob why he used a different name on his 3 childrens birth cert (Edgar w King) then when he married Lydia he used Walter Edgar King.
now i am going to try and find out weather his children were married and go from there, and see if any of there children have got trees. please can i ask you all not to delete any of your messages until i have time to copy them, sorry i am not that good on a computer and it takes a bit longer, thank you

Kelly, I don't think that we actually have any proof that his father was Thomas. The details from his marriage certificates are what he presented to the registrar. As has already been pointed out, for example, he may never have known his father and gave a name for the sake of respectability. Also it is not uncommon to give the father's name as that of the person who brought them up - in some cases this can be a stepfather or grandfather.

Kelly's going to have a look on Ancestry at army records. If this looks like him perhaps that marriage cert may give more family details!!! or if anyone in search trees has these names they may be able to help.

I did find a possible marriage for the other child King/Cooper ,there are a few possible children Cooper /mmn King there is one called Eileen (wonder if she was named after the sister)

Has anyone looked for a death for Walter A to check if they were actually 2 different people?
