My great grandfather died falling out of a railway carriage at a station in Oldham in 1877. I have his death certificate, and there was an inquest. But I have so far been unable to find out anything else.

I looked to see if Lancashire had anything similar to what Quoy mentioned

..... possibly they do, only Oldham is not included in Lancashire!!!

I then went to the Oldham Council site, and found Oldham Archives, a site I had actually contacted on another matter about 5 years ago.

Anyway, they have a collection of old newspapers on microfile ............. so I sent an email giving them the information and asking for a search.

I IMMEDIATELY got a reply back saying that my email would be given to the relevant researcher, and I should hear something in 15 working days.

I'm not kidding!!


Obviously, a computer-generated automatic response, but still ..............................

cant get it for yorkshire, i tried your derbyshire one and it came up, with libraries, but not for yorkshire/west yorkshire or halifax,...jenny ,

Hi All
a few weeks ago we were able to search this fantastic information site then we lost it well here as follows is how to search it again
I live in Derbyshire (you have to go to your own county)so I go to www.derbyshire .gov.uk
click on libraries
click online resorces
password mine is dcc( derbyshire county council) followed by the number on the back of my library card
prepare to lose a few hours (again)
