I want to play. BG had me sort out her tree yesterday, so I get honourable mention here, at least. ;)

(Just for anybody thinking about trying it, do not consult me on sorting out the bloopers you make in your tree. The only solution I figured out for my own was deleting the whole thing and starting over again. Somehow, I seem to have waved a magic wand in BG's direction, but it is not a feat that could be replicated.)

Here's the real task I set you all:

If you can get BG's Pears-s back to around 1800 in Leicestershire, you may be able to prove that she and I are related. By marriage. And I might let her into the exclusive club of descendants of an extinct surname, if she came from just the right Pears and his wife.

Somehow, I'm doubting the likelihood of this ...

Can't find any deaths, looked from 1928-1935. Critcher seems to be a rare name not many of 'em in the index.

You're looking for the death of a Frederick Critcher between 1927 when Doris married him and 1935 when she married the other guy.

Likely just not yet transcribed by FreeBMD, no?

I searched at FreeBMD for deaths of Fred* Cri* 1927-1935 and the latest result I got was 1930. The rest of the years aren't transcribed.

Anyhow, isn't he irrelevant as being just the first husband of your husband's grandmother?

If you get the Doris-Pears marriage certificate, it's going to tell you whether she was widowed or divorced.

The deaths for Fred* Cri* just end at 1930 at FreeBMD. Obvious absence of transcription. (I think deaths lag behind births and marriages in priority.)

I'm not volunteering to go trawling the images. Work to do.
