Hi Potty,
thanks for looking for me. I don't think that this is Alma's father. She was supposed to have been born at sea in 1857,so if he was born 1843,he would be too young.

I think Alma made herselp up!

Thanks again

Having searched further, I don't think the Francis above is Alma's father. I can find him on all censuses and his marriage in 1873 gives him as a bachelor.

Hi
Just needed to up date this very old post of mine. and get my findings off my chest!

I have at last gotten hold of the marriage cert of William Pimlott Stephens and Alma Sabastopol Whitehead.
She is indeed a Widow as my helpers thought. She names her father as Francis Finch, deceased.

Other than that, I'm looking for her marriage to Mr Whitehead, which I can't find, her birth, which even with the maiden name I can't find and I can't even find her on a census before her marriage to William Stephens.

So, may be in another three years I will have something more to add to my thread !

Frustrated

Catherine...Dont know if this helps you at all but I have found only 1 Whitehead listed for the Battle of Sebastopol (20Sept.1854-24Nov.1854)..
Thomas Whitehead (Private) 33 Regiment of Foot. (Wounded)
I have the full List of Battalion Casualties and Regiments etc.

Just to confuse things even more, there's a tree on Ancestry that has a Albert Alma Sebastapol Axell, born 1856, Rye, Sussex.

Once we can establish her maiden name, I can have look on FMP for births at sea. I can't see one for an Alma Whitehead.

Julie,
i think i can eliminate the man as she was defiantly a woman,ha ha.her name seemed very unusual to me,but not so it seems

I was working on the theory that she might have been married before so was off cross reffing some marriages

I have found 2 young ladies with the name Alma Sebastopol
& 2 others with Alma Sebastopol among their name
Oh and 1 Man

Just ignore me with that birth i think i was getting carried away lol
