Marriage of Robert Edwards & Elizabeth Chadwick

CBE Report 28 Jan 2009 23:57

I am trying to find a marriage between Robert Edwards and Elizabeth Chadwick.

Robert was born in Cherry Burton, East Yorkshire in 1828.
Elizabeth was born between 1823 and 1829, in either Haisthorpe, Bridlington or Flamborough, depending on whichever census you check.

Elizabeth had an illegitimate son, William, who was baptised in Driffield, East Yorkshire in January 1847. It is also possible she may have had an illegitimate daughter, Mary, in Bridlington in 1845, who died in the same year.

According to the 1851 census, Robert and Elizabeth were married and living in Thearne, near Beverley, East Yorkshire with William, and their 3 month old son Michael.

By 1861, the family had moved to Hull, and by the time of Robert's death in 1868, they had at least 6 children together. On each census return, Elizabeth is recorded as either married or widow. On the birth certificate of their youngest daughter, Ellen, born 1867, mother's details are recorded Elizabeth Edwards, formerly Chadwick.

I have so far been unable to locate a marriage between Robert and Elizabeth, which is also impeding my research on Elizabeth's parentage. Chadwick/Chodwick is quite a common name in the Bridlington area, and there are several possabilities as to Elizabeth's parents (she herself may have been illegitimate).

Any leads or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
