My ancestors in Glasgow, Scotland. My great-grandfather Lewis Mitchell born 1833 in Germany (Frankfurt an Main) married Mary Docherty (born Cork, Ireland) in Glasgow 1855. Supposedly earlier called Louis Miechler or similar. Glazier when married, later a slater. His son also Lewis Mitchell was a slater, died 1934. South side of Glasgow.

I don't hold out much hope of finding more about the German born Mitchell. On his marriage certificate parents were Peter Mitchell, barber, and Catherine Smith. British names, Peter may have been in army when Lewis born in Germany in 1833. Had expected German name on marriage certificate if born of German parents. They may have been Irish? Wrote to Frankfurt, reply in German, no record of birth, really need to know church where baptised.
