Hi Christine
I have found baptisms for a John Arthur Journeaux and a Walter Philip Journeaux in St Helier, births 2/10/1889 and 27/11/1891, parents James Journeaux and Alice Clara Page.
www.jerseyheritagetrust.jeron.je - pages of Journeaux
It looks as if Alice died and James remarried as in the 1901 for Southampton his wife is Charlotte. There is also a Dora Hayden listed as step-daughter. Checking BMD there is this marriage
Marriages Sep 1900 (>99%) Day Amelia Alice I. Wight 2b 1203 Hayden Charlotte I. Wight 2b 1203 <<<<<<< Journeaux James I. Wight 2b 1203 <<<<<<< Summers Samuel William I. Wight 2b 1203
James's father was John, 1816 St Peter, and there seem to have been at least 8 children. They are shown on the 1851 as Journeana.
I will be able to find out more when the Archive re-opens on Tues

Hi Pam,
Thank you very much for checking. I had hoped it was a transcription error, which is easy to do with signatures. Now I know that I must give more consideration to all sorts of variants of the surname.
Thank you once again for your time.
Best wishes, Jeff

I had a look at Patrick's Jnr's death certificate and the date of death was 23/2/1872, he died at 27, Canon Street, St Helier and the cause of death was Hydropsie which I think is something to do with fluid retention.
The only Maloney birth that was one of yours (lots of others) was Michael. He was born at 4am on 11/8/1855 at 3, Pier Rd. Patrick registered the birth and gave an address at Parade Place so I think Pier Rd was probably where the midwife lived. Mother Honora Jones.

Hi Jerseylily Yes they were living at Canon St.as it is on the 1871 census paper. The birth of Michael they have Parade St on the 1861 census. Michael was the second born and Ann was first born in 1854 that is how I worked out the marriage year. I wonder if her name was Honora and shortened to Nora. The question is would that have been there marriage with her named Mary all confusing. Thank you for all your help. Regards Corinne

Hello Corinne
I can't find Ann Mahoney on the 1871 census either. Possibly she's in service somewhere and has been accidentally transscibed with the name of the family she's working for.
I did have a quick look for Michael's death but didn't find it in St Helier. I'll have another look when we get back - away next week.

I have searched the birth indexes for all 12 parishes and while there are a lot of Vardons there is no Joseph. Either his birth was not registered or Joe/Joseph was the name he was known by and he was registered as something else.
Do you have his marriage certificate? If there is a father's name on it I may be able to trace him that way.

Hi Jersey,
Not sure if you're still doing the look up. If so, is there any possible that you could find birth/baptism of Gladys Maud Lainey born Oct 1910 please? All I know that her mother was Rosa as stated in 1911 Census. (I couldnt find Rosa's marriage to a Lainey in England either).
Many thanks,
T

Hi T,
Would this be the lady you are looking for?
D/S/A/4/A6698 Registration card of Gladys Maud Kirwan, née Lainey, of 2, Hue Cottages, Hue Street, St Helier, born 19/10/1910, James Edward Kirwan, Joan Maude Kirwan, and Marjorie Ann Kirwan, registered as children on back of card 30/01/1941 - 30/01/1941
I know it's not her birth/baptism but is her Occupation record card, it should have a photo on it.
Were there any other children on the 1911? Only I've found baptisms on www.jerseytrust.jeron.je for Florence 1898, Rosetta Maud 1901 and Catherine Mabel 1903 Lainey. Their parents are Henry Lainey and Rosina Shiner.
I'm working at the Archive on Tues morning so I'll have a look for Gladys's birth then. I'll also look for the marriage record to James Kirwan as I can look at the marriage certificate there to get her father's name.
Edit Just seen your original thread where you say there were no there children in the household so the above 3 would seem to be a red herring!
