just updating

I've been asking some questions and this lady wasn't in the ATS at all, she worked in a hospital in London with her sister Gladys and they both caught TB it was caught early and they both recovered, Catherine some days earlier than Gladys, Catherine left the hospital and Gladys hasn't seen or heard frm her since .Gladys was still alive and living in a nursing home in Middlesbrough in 2006/7.

You have your grandad's date of birth wrong, he was born in 1914, not 1916. Then Catherine in 1916/1917 and Gladys in 1918:

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1914 (91%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Harris Catherine M Bedingfield Barton I. 8c 981

Hi Dee,
I've spoken to my mum this morning and she told me that Katherine is either one year younger than my grandad or one year older than Gladys, which would make her birth date 19/12/1915 0r 19/12/1917 and not 1916, and I might of mixed up Katherine and Gladys birthday's which would mean Katherine's birthday would be 13/12/1915/16 or 17,
just to add to the muddle lol, will sort the birth cert. today if I can.
Lesley.

Hi Lesley,

all you need is the Volme number which is 8c and the page number 981, and name of child and district which is Barton upon Irwell and the month and year, March 1917.

You can order online at The General Register, tick the little box to say you know the area/district or they'll charge you more than the £7.00. Takes about 1 week to arrive.

your right about the registering of the birth and your most probly right about the M being for Mary after her mum too, thankyou so much for all your help, just baffled now cos' grandad idolised Katherine or Peggy as he called her and just wish she's got in touch after the war !!
thankyou so much Lesley.

The details for her birth I found earlier in the thread, here you go;

Births Mar 1917 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Harris Catherine M Bedingfield Barton I. 8c 981

Remember her birth would most probably have been registered after christmas.

I'm presuming the intial M is for Mary after her mother.

I've looked at CWGC and couldn't find a death for her during the war, however if she did marry after seeing your Grandfather then there's something we couldn't rule out.
