Sue in Sunny Worthing Report 9 Mar 2009 17:51

Flipping heck, trust me to be asleep last night & miss all of the excitement!!

Wow Julie - I could kiss you as well!!! Its such good news, thank you so much. You girls (I'm assuming you are girls!!) are all so kind to spend so much time helping me & probably others as well, that a simple thank you doesn't seem enough!! I wish I could repay you & help you as well!!! Please let me know if I can look anything up for you.

Well, back to Hollands - we need to wait to see if Dad Holland is George or is it John/Jonathan? It will hopefully tell us on Eliza's birth cert. I did think it strange that on 1841, Elizabeth age 30 was named before George age 25 and, as the relationship is not noted on 1841, I wonder if George could've been John's younger brother who was staying there?

At least we now know that Dad Holland was born in Yarmouth as well as Mum now though, which is great.

There is a marriage in Yarmouth in Dec Q 1839 of James Holland & Elizabeth Swindall, do you think that squiggle on the census could be James? I just assumed it was John or Jonathan!!

Who would've thought that I started off looking for Albert Barnard in Deptford now its Richers in Suffolk & Hollands in Norfolk!!!!

I will, of course, let you know as soon as the certs arrive - probably Saturday and ................. thank you all again xx

Jooleh Report 9 Mar 2009 01:00

I searched many hours too! I thought Geo* was a good bet to search on and even did Geo* hallan* at one point....... never thought of Reo as a possibility. To be honest I got so bogged down with the potential mistranscriptions from Ancestry that today I tried just using the index on 1901censusonline with different birth years for Eliza Holland put in 1842 and up she popped. Went back to Ancestry and put in the info I found on 1901censusonline EXCEPT the surname, scrolled through all the results until I got to H and there she was. Ancestry has been great for my family research but sometimes even with minimal criterea there are just too many results!

On the image for 1851 Jno's age looks like 42 rather than 47. In 1841 he was 25 to Elizabeth's 30. Perhaps he didn't want to appear younger than his wife in 1851 (as he was at home and able to influence what went on record!)

Sorry anyone who's already read this just EDITED the above re how I did the search.

I searched so many hours you wouldnt believe
what a fresh pair of eyes and a different brain can do!!

does put the cat among the pigeons again though on mr hollands name, but maybe he had two and used both?
we will see when elizas birth cert comes back
i hope!!

Jooleh Report 8 Mar 2009 23:57

Nice that there was an H after Reo.........................

Births Sep 1846 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Holland George Henry Liverpool 20 564

This would fit with him being 4 in the 1851 census

Hi Sue
Been following your thread with interest. I'm not nearly as quick or clever at searching as Evie or Vivienne but I have just found the family in 1851!

1851 England Census
about Eliza Halland
Name: Eliza Halland
Age: 9
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1842
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: Jno
Mother's Name: Elizth
Gender: Female
Where born: St Pancras

Civil Parish: St Pancras
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England

Street address:

Occupation:

Condition as to marriage:

Disability: View Image

Registration district: Pancras
Sub registration district: Somers Town
ED, institution, or vessel: 5
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 199
Household Members: Name Age
Jno Halland 47>>>Master Mariner born Yarmouth
Elizth Halland 40
Eliza Halland 9

Reo H Halland 4

The image does look like Jno but could be a mistake by the enumerator?
Reo is Geo on the image.

Good luck with the rest of your searching!

Just to let you know that I have now ordered the birth certs for

Eliza Ellen Holland, St Pancras, Dec Q 1840
&

blast my cockney grandma
for some reason i hear her talking of somers town in connection to canningtowm/silvertown ,where she was born
just googled it and yep,it st pancras, camden town
and i lived in and around archway/holloway for 20 years!!
i dont recall ever seeing it or going there!!

Sue in Sunny Worthing

Sue in Sunny Worthing Report 7 Mar 2009 21:20

I've never heard of Somers Town & I was born in South East London!!! But I will look it up now.

Yeah, think I will send for birth cert & say only if Mother is Elizabeth but first I'll look at lancashirebmd for George, I didn't know it even existed!!!

Thanks for looking for them again today - frustrating isn't it?

I think Elizabeth died in Greenwich area in 1865

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 7 Mar 2009 20:44

you can send for it using her mothers name as a checking ref
then if its wrong you only lose £3 i think it is
easy to get ellen and allen wrong with the fancy writing of the day.
but i thought somers town was more eastend
my geog is c**p though,i have to google most things.
i searched again today for 1851/41
nothing ,zilch,zero.
have you tried lancashirebmd for george holland liverpool1848?
they sometimes have the parents names on them.
and i also could not find elizabeth 1811 after 1861

Sue in Sunny Worthing

Sue in Sunny Worthing Report 7 Mar 2009 20:35

Do you think that the birth for Eliza Holland is the one in Dec Q 1840 in St Pancras - Eliza Ellen Holland? There is definately no Eliza Allen Hollands.

There is also a death of Elizabeth Eleanor Holland in Greenwich
in March Q 1865 - maybe that's Eliza's Mum?

I wish I could find them in 1851!!!!

I won't have any credits left Vivienne cos I've got an all inclusive subscription & you don't need credits, thankfully!!!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 6 Mar 2009 22:25

if you have credits on it when you go to stop your sub make sure you use them up
they wipe them off!!
i had 200 on there when i stopped and they did not reimburse me

cant see elizabeth holland 1811 yarmouth norfolk with the kids on 51
did note that george holland 1848 was born liverpool.
or 41 without them three from 1861 census
but will look tommorow, unless one of you 2 come up with them
bet evie gets them!!
but with daddy being a sailor its harder to find dad with them
they only seem to be back long enough to make more kids and then scarper back to sea!!

Sue in Sunny Worthing

Sue in Sunny Worthing Report 6 Mar 2009 22:00

Vivienne - thank you!! Just got back from making my cuppa & you were there with 2 census for me ......

Fancy Albert being a hairdresser & perfumer :-)

Now I know his father was William - thats great, thank you.

Yeah, Genealogist is rubbish, I spend so much time correcting their errors!! I'm going to change when my subscription is up but thats not until the end of the year. Thats the trouble, its the day after Boxing Day & I'm always so busy with Christmas, its easier just to let it renew. Lazy I know but I will definately change this year!!
