.and just in case people think i'm a snotty git becasue of my previous answer..I have to say that i have been helping people on here for a very long time. I don't make guesses.I deal in facts.and I have a huge collection of records to prove it

Cassidy says I'm wrong........Cassidy should look at the 1881 Census in which both John A Hornby and John W Hornby appear separately..the only mistranscriptiom might be the Hornley that appears on the John W entry.....

Now then Cassidy.....also look at the
1901 entry in which both John a Hornby AND John W Hornby appear.AGAIN!!........independently..John A, just as he should be with Lucy and the two kids......John W Hornby with his wife MAUD!! and several other kids!!

Quad erat demonstrandum.

I will repeat for the benefit of the poor owner of this thread .forget John W Hornby!!!

Lots of love lol !!

Ok.I'll try again...Cassidy I'm saying that John W and John A are two different people...and both appear independently on the 1881 Census..John A as in Albert apears consistently as John Albert with sons Albert and Horace.....(1901) and on original BMD
records to which io have access, since i come originally from Sculcoates Hull.John W is NOT a transcription eror , he is a totslly different guy

Joan W is quoting LDS submitted records...

I'm only trying to help but I suggest that as I said before!!! that John W is a no no. totally irrelveant and not the same man...

John Albert's mum is MARY............and i'll prove it if it kills me.!!!!!

Yes, think your right re. red herring! I'm guessing I should try and obtain the birth certificate of John A Hornby. I think his middle name was Albert also.
I did see the info re. "Hornley", ie - Spencer and Elizabeth and wasn't sure if its an original typo on the original paperwork. But, I didn't seem to be able to find any records of births for "Spencer". I guess its possible that some surnames do change their spellings over time then? Thanks for your help by the way people!!

John A Hornby married Lucy A Bosden at All Saints Sculcoates Hull 1895..

So it IS John A you're looking for.

No wonder you're going around in circles...Yorkshire BMD says JOHN A HORNBY born Myton Hull 1872.

I think John W Hornby is a red herring

Have found John Hornby and Lucy Bosden..but you're in a bit of bother becasue john doesn't seem to have a father......although john and his mother are on the 1881 census..it seems that father must have disappeared since the birth o=in 1871. So finding him on the 1871 census couod be a problem.....

How do you know Albert was born in Hull have you found him on the 1901 census.
Did Albert have a second christian name?

Hi there.
Ok. I'm kind of going around in circles and its either me being rubbish, or there is missing or not added information. I'm trying to trace back my family tree down my fathers side. I'm ok when it comes to my grandmother, but I'm running aground with my grandfather, Albert Hornby. He was born in Hull in 1898 and his father was John Hornby (circa 1872) also I believe born in Hull. But I cannot seem to trace anything further back from him. His wife was lucy Bosden and I seem to have been able to trace back ok with her, but just not with John! Any suggestions at all?
