Hi everyone,

Could any one give me some advice about Scottish names please.

My great grandfather William Davidson Cairns was born in Langholm in Scotland on 13th March 1888 his mother is down as Elizabeth Cairns this is then crossed out and Gordon is there she married John Cairns on 12th November 1872 in Gretna.
I have not been able to order the marriage cert from gretna acheivemnets site as they want credit card which i do not have, they also charge 15 quid which is alot for a cert.

I have looked on the Scottish site for her wedding cert but it is not there don't know why this is.

My question is could she have been married before 1872 as my gr grandfather's middle name is Davidson which is unusal i think?

I have not been able to find a birth for her either on Scotland site under the surname Gordon.

Could any one advise me what i could do to carry on my search for the family i have them on the 1881 census living at 6 Irvings Close.
Any help would be appreciated.

Regards Paula
