I'm trying to find more about my husband's family. His mother's father was Clement Harrison (1877-1947), born Horncastle, Lincs, who went south and became a pharmacist. His father Eardley, born Well, Lincs in 1847, appears on the 1901 census as a corn merchant's traveller living in Horncastle with wife Annie and 6 children - Clement has already left home. Eardley and brother Frederic (born 1846) also appear with their parents on the 1851 census living in Sloothby, Lincs. Their parents are Charles, 40, farm labourer, born Sloothby and Susannah, 43, born Alford, Lincs. The 1861 census has them in Saleby, with Charles 52 an agricultural foreman and Susan 55. By 1871 Charles was farm bailiff in Sloothby and by 1891 he was a farmer and a widower. His parents appear to be Charles, born 1790 in Burgh, Lincs and Mary, born 1791 in Bilsby, Lincs. They appear on the 1861 and 1871 censuses living in Sloothby and he is a shepherd. In 1871 grandson David Low, age 23, born Huttoft? is living with them and working as an agricultural labourer. |
