Please tell your cousin we are always happy to help at Genes and not to be nervous.

Ok well the problem i have is i only have access to the Scottish Census Records and not to Scottish BMD's-very few people do have access to these.I have helped another family recentley with a Scottish lookup after 1901 and i advised them the same as i will you.They had great success and i heard from the lady the other day and she was on her way to Scotland to view Graves etc of all the names we had found.

Census era is really the era i work on most and so for the BMD's for Scotland you will need to go to the site below.Free to register and free to search but to view records you have to pay credits.Unlike the English BMD's you do get alot of info from the records.Hugh's birth record will show both his parents names and also occupations and some of the BMD records show when the parents married.

I did a search and found 11 possible Hugh's born between 1908-1911.None in Kirkbrightshire though??I searched for any Mckinnon born in Kirkbrightshire between 1905-1915 and nothing,so he must have been born in another area.least you have an idea when he was born.

You will need a few credits to sort this out.If you need any help with finding the parents on the census records once you have their names i will take a look for you.The ScotlandsPeople site is brill.

Mary May Done on the 1901 census for me. Her dob is may 1891 but may be down as 1892. I know she was from Cheshire (northwich) but have seen on the 1911 census that she was in Bucklow.

Trying to help my cousin Mary McKinnon a GR member but nervous about asking for help. would you have any suggestions please. I have got a few names from 192.com which may lead to the younger siblings. But Mary would love to find her fathers nieces and nephews. This is what she knows:

My Fathers name was Hugh McKinnon His Mothers name was Mary I think his father may have been a butcher or slaughter man and the family came from Scotland kirkudbright area I think, he had several sisters and I think he was born in about 16th July around 1910? Mum was 1915 and she always said he was 5 years older than her. His fathers name may have been Ian or Colin but I may be guessing here and his wife Mary may have been Smart maiden name but again I may be guessing!

His first wife in Scotland was called Margaret I think and she had a son called Graham and I think she got cancer and died around the war period, my father was in the war at Dunkirk but I have no idea of his regiment but my Mum said he was desperate to get across London and back home at the end war because she was so ill.

He came south and settled in maidstone and remarried I believe his second wife was called Pat he had a daughter who I think is called Valerie and a son I think was called Colin...they divorced after he took up with my Mum although he was not with Pat when he met my Mum. They met in about 1951.

That's about all I know and really Debbie, I do not know where to begin!

You kindly searched for William and Ann Tempest in Pittington, Durham and their children Martin, Richard and Thomas on the 1891 census for me.

William Tempest died in 1894 and Ann got remarried tin 1896 to Walter Frost, b1850 Stoke.

Could you check to see where they are on the 1901 Census please

Hi Michelle Yes Lilian was age 7 in 1911 census, said she was born in Croydon, which would make it 1904.....the only one I could find was Lilian Sophia which is the cert I ordered but mother maiden name written as annie Louisa Batchelor. But fathers profession (plumber) matches and Sophia was his mothers name! I can't find any others from Croydon so a bit of a mystery. My grandad always said she was a bit simple and died around age 14 from double pneumonia. Any info you come across would be great!!!

That is brilliant news!!I didn't like to say to you at the time but i was 100% it was the correct Annie everything tied in.I should imagine in war years she was helping out as a nurse cos there was a great shortage of help in those years.She prob wasn't a trained nurse but in war years everyone did their bit to help out.

Let me know what the birth certs say i will cross fingers!I will take a look again at Lilian-what area would you say she was born in?

Hi Michelle......After staying up till nearly midnight the last two nights I think I have definietly solved part of the puzzle!!! On Frank and Annies marriage cert Franks father was listed as John, when it should have been William. However I traced William back to 1861 and 1871 censuses and he did have a brother John. The John on the wedding cert was a butcher in Carshalton. William and John were born in Teynham and lived in Green Street. Looking at the 1901 I found John in Carshalton listed as being born in Green Street Kent and guess what....he's a butcher.
The final coincidence which means it has to be the right Annie, is that on the wedding cert they were both residing at 5 west street Carshalton....forward to the 1911 census and John is still in Carshalton and I think you know what I'm going to say!!! His address....5 West street Carshalton!!!!! So i think I can safely say that this is my great grandfather and grandmother. For some reason there may have been a mistake as John Lewis was a witness, or his father William may not approved of the marriage...I'm wondering if she was already pregnant as Lilian was born 1904 also.
SO all the research on the Hutchings you found for me is great as that must be them!!!
Just need to find Lillian Lewis now, Still can't find any other than the cert I got but the mothers maiden name isn't Hutchings its Batchelor, so whther that another mistake?? Might be worth me going to Kew and trailing through the books to see if I can find any that somehow haven't got on the net!!?? ALso her death I can't find....Have ordered annies birth and ALbert the son that died birth. If the mother's maiden name was Miller here is the poss marriage of the parents.I found a Florence Griggs with mother's maiden name Miller and she was born in Leeds so i looked for a marriage in Leeds and found this.

I would say this is George's sister cos i found a poss for George on the 1911 and i listed there was a Ada living in the house and it came up with Ada and George in the same house and listed here as c1904 birthyear and that he was aged 7 and her a Ada Hensby aged 8 months born in Greenwich.No Dorothy in the house though cos i tried the same search with Dorothy with George Edward and no match.However she may have been born after 1911?Do you know if she was the youngest?

I can't view the family to see who the parents are cos you have to buy credits to view.I suggest you go onto the 1911 and put a search in for George Edward Hensby born Greenwich and put 1904 in as birthyear and in other people in household section put Ada Hensby and you will see the info i found.Pay for the credits and you will see the parents and their ages and also their occupations and how many years they have been married.With this info i would be quite happy to get all the info for you off the census records.

There is no other way to do this other than send for his birth cert.If can be done when i have mother's maiden name i can look for a marriage and find them.Without either parents names it would not be a good idea.

Got your message thanks.Glad it was the correct family.Death looks good cos i couldn't see him on the 1841 and if he was alive he would have been with the family cos of his age.
