I have a marriage cert stating Stanley robert william thompson married joan hilda beech in march 1955. his father stated as ralph thompson. I have studied the 1881 closely.Looking at the image under magnification and i am sure well 99% that the 1st letter of the birthplace is a T.There is a family of Turner's on the same census image and the T of Turner matches the 1st letter of William's birthplace on the 1881.So we have a T and an e and tton closest match i can find to this is Teeton which is near Sparatton and also near Brixworth .I have looked at the 1851 again with this birthplace in mind.We have a Brixworth birthplace on the 1861 birthyears range from c1844-46.We have a Tetton...Teeton birthplace on the 1881.So here is the poss i have found for William on the 1851 and the bad news is he is an Orphan.We know William had a father William from the marriage cert and he was noted as deceased.There are no family members of William's as witnesses so makes sense really.He must have left the orphanage and gone to the household of the 1861 family to learn his trade of Boot Closer by being a Shoe Maker's Apprentice.Then he travelled to London with or without Joseph Law-his friend from the 1861 census and also seen on the 1901 census.He had nothing to keep him in Northamptonshire,no family.However he had a trade which would have work for in London.

Here is the 1871-just incase you hadn't got it?I am sure you have 1881-1901 of them.This is the record where birthplace was listed as Warwickshire which i believe is just an error.He was def born in Northamptonshire cos all other records state that.

Wow what a hard brick wall this is!!!I feel i am closing in on him.I have William on the 1861-71-81-91 census records.Like you said there are quite a few William Martin's and 2 with father William!!I have counted out George father and 2 of the William father's cos they were all alive 1881.As the father was marked as deceased i have been looking for someone who meets this description.I don't know what census records you have on William?

The 1871 lists his birthplace as Warwickshire which was strange???It is def him as the occupation matches and also daughter Helen Louisa is with him and also his wife.All these match the 1881 you mentioned with the Setton birthplace.As far as i know and please correct me if i am wrong there is no such place as Setton?There is Sutton and Teeton.The census image isn't really clear and the 1st letter could be an S or a T.So here is the 1861 census where he is lodging in a house.Why i think this is the correct William is...living in the same house as a boarder also is a Joseph Law 1847.This same man was boarding in the house of Ellen in 1901.So i think he was a friend of William's.

Well looks like the surname of Margaret mother of Mary Butler is Darcy so a transcript error on the marriage record.Reason i think it is was a clue on the 1881 which again has errors on it!!!A James Darcy lives in the house as a lodger.I think he maybe a cousin to Margaret i don't think its her brother although i haven't studied the 1861-51 very closely yet.I will correct the errors on this census and place the correct record rather than the error on it.The error on it was Mary Butler's birthyear-age.She is done as 14 years old!!!Well she isn't cos i have looked back and both are with their own families then and no 4 year olds with them!!!So i think it should read 14 months.Also the birthplaces of Margaret are dittoed on this record as Middlesex they all have the do appreviation.On other census records she is Ireland which is her correct birthplace.

I think Thomas was married before....i found him on the 1881 with a wife.There is no John with them though????So either he was born 1881 or he is elsewhere.
