Thought it was funny how we both found the same John E i think he is def the father of Eliza and like you say quite a character!!I dont think he ever remarried and i believe he may have been quite a ladies man!!

I did find a poss death for him which maybe worth obtaining to see who registered his death and of course the marriage cert of 1844.

Will look and see what else i can find!

Hi Michelle

Thanks for looking for John Evans Allibone for me - I have a little more info which may (or may not!) help!

I have found one marriage for him to Eliza Webb in 1844 in Chatham, Kent. Being honest I don't know where to look to find if they ever divorced, but I suspect they didn't (based on her always saying she was married on the local census) I have searched all over the place to see if he married anyone else, but can't find records either. I'd dearly love to find his parents too, but so far have had no luck on that score, but being honest haven't looked very hard (have got stuck on 'him' if you know what I mean!)

He does seem like a bit of a wild one to me!

I will look at the BMD for you.If you have searched quarter by quarter are you certain re 1952-3 death?Just wondered how you had this time frame in mind?
Well good thing is if hs wife died 1961 and was listed as a Widow we know he died before 1961.

Let me know re death year theory for Ernest-George and i will take a look

Hi again Michelle

Well John Evans Allibone seems to have been a bit of a character as I have found out a bit more today (I think!!)

I know, from the marriage cert. for his daughter that me was a musician. So based on that, his dob from finding his marriage to Eliza Webb and his place of birth I have been searching nearly all day.

On the 1861 census he is shown as living in Cardiff with a 'wife' Ann, and with an occupation of Musician, says he was born in Chatham, Kent in the right year - so it looks like the same person. However, the original wife, Eliza Webb (Allibone on the census) is shown living in Chatham as married and with no new husband. On the 1851 census I have a John Allebond - born in Chatham, with an occupation as what looks like a professional singer, living in Southwark St John as a lodger, but with a 'wife' Mary. Again the original wife Eliza is shown o the 1851 census as living in Chatham, again as married but with no husband at the address.

I don't know where to look for divorce records, and can't find him as ever marrying anyone other than Eliza.

What a muddle!! and I'm tempted to say what a rougue!! He would be my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather!!!!

I'm even more confused now!

Beverley Report 20 Mar 2009 15:48

Hi Michelle - I was wondering if you may be able to help me as you said you had access to passenger lists dor the UK. I don't have a huge deal of information but I'll give you what I have.

My Grandmother is named Florence May Mason born in 1919 Boldon Colliery and she is the child of Elvire Maria Manns or Marmo (we don't know which) who was born in Gent, Belgium. I can't confirn Elvire's surname as I have as yet been unable to find the birth of my grandmother though I am assured they are correct. I know the forenames are correct as my mother was named after her. My Grandmother aslo had two brothers: Colin and Frederick both born Boldon Colliery and my mother told me that when Colin joined the Navy Elvire had to travel to London to clear up some 'problems' with his birth certificate???

I was told that Elvire Maria's mother was named Florence May Nicholson who went to Belgium either with her brother or to see him where she married a blind musician - I kid you not - named Georges Manns/Marmo.
Consequently they divorced and Florence returned to North East England with her daughter and remarried. My mother was told that Florence Nicholson was the daughter of the owners of Vaux Breweries in Sunderland. Research has shown this is false and I have subsequently been unable to find information on any of my ancestors until my Grandmothers (Flo. Mason)marriage.

PHEW - I hope you don't find all that as confusing as I do. What I need to know if possible is whether you can locate Florence May and Elvire Maria on a passenger list. I have no idea of dates but it would have been proir to 1919. To be honest I think my mother thinks her Grandmother was a Nazi on the run as she burned all her documents and letters when she discovered she had cancer.

Hop you can help - I certainly need some

Hi Michelle
I wonder if you might try to help me? I have been trying, without any success to find the death of Ernest Robert Landymore, born Marylebone, London,1894. His parents were Robert Landymore b.1872 and Lydia Hayes b.1869 on the 1901 census they were living @ 74 Leather Lane,Holborn.
His brothers and sisters were:
Percy Landymore age 6
Nelson Landymore age 4
Mary Landymore age 3
Lawrence Landymore age 3 ( twins??)
also living with them is:
William Hayes age 23 ( presumably Lydias brother)
Agnes Rudding age 22

Ernest married Annie E Pell Dec 1924 St.Pancras, London.
After that there is nothing!!!
Annie died 22/6/1961 and on her death cert it states `widow of George Landymore, occ.Stone Mason` They were living 52 Northchurch Road, Dalston,Hackney at the time of Ernests death around 1952/3 and Annie was still living there when she died.
Ernest used the name George (for some unknown reason) and he had done so for many years.
George(ernest) He died in hospital, not sure which one but presume it nearest one to home?
Every qtr, year by year from 1949 to 1st qtr 1960 has been searched, but absolutely nothing!!!
Can you see where I am going wrong or maybe missisg something?
I really would appreciate some help/advice on this as I have tried every variation of surname /first name etc I can think of and I now can`t think at all !! Please try to help Michelle if you possibly can.
Thankyou
Cathy
I will be away from computor until this evening but will check in then .I hope I have given enough information for you, and if there are any questions I will attempt to answer them later

Debra Report 19 Mar 2009 18:53

Hello again Michelle

I have some more information that has turned up in todays post via a birth certficate. Eliza was born in 1845 (20th July). and her birth registered on what looks like the 20th August 1845.

Firstly on the marriage certificate it shows the witnesses as William Joseph Webb and Ann Webb (I believe these to be Eliza's parents) The marriage cert. is dated in 1863 and shows Eliza as being 20, so I guess age wasn't recorded properly back then.

On Eliza'a brith certificate it shows her father as John Evans Allibone and her mother as Eliza Allibone (Formerly Webb) and the place of birth as Cross Street, Chatham. His occupation on the marriage certificate is Musician and on the birth certificate as Boot Maker.

On the 1851 census the family are shown as Allborn (I think - but it is definately them and the handwriting is hard to read) on Ancestry and on the 1861 as Allibone. In neither case is John present, but he was still around when Eliza married in 1863. On the 1861 census Eliza is also missing but shows as a visitor and cousin to a Durling family, also in Chatham. I hope this helps.

Thanks again

Debs
