If you are after Norman's parents didnt they show this information on the scottish site? Normally parents are listed on the marriage records and if you know when he married you could get that information.
Might be worth you going back to the Scottish site i listed. I presume he was born in Scotland Elaine?
Also the marriage cert of the english marriage would show his father's name.

So it looks like John died in 1845 and Ann his wife remarried in 1848.They most prob moved to Durham to the mines there between 1843-45. The son Robert was born c1843 in Northumberland so we know they were still there then.

When you look at the image they are together as a family. John(father) listed as a Coal Miner.
Notice they are living in Willington birthplace listed on later census records.

My 2nd Grt Gran was Barbara Straughan b. 1867 Seaham Colliery, New Seaham (no b cert) I have her death cert. which gives her husbands full name Robinson Taylor Langlands they married 2 Oct 1884 at Christ Church in New Seaham. (no cert) I use Durham Records Online where i can. she was bap. 16 Aug 1868 Barbara Straughan, daughter of John Straughan & Jane
Barbara's sister was Mary Jane Straughan b. 2 Jan 1870 in Seaham Colliery, New Seaham. to Mary Jane Straughan nee Clark and John Straughan a coal miner. (from cert)
I have'nt ordered Barbara's parents Marr Cert. yet as I am unsure of my findings. The one in question is 2 July 1859 St. Mary the Virgin, Old Seaham John Straughan, son of John Straughan married Jane Clark, daughter of Robert Clark. ( I can only find census reports with the fathers name as Robert Straughan , wife Jane)

3) Have you got the marriage cert of your 2x Great Grandmother's parents?

I hope you can help with this, as I am now at a total loss, so to speak.
The problem is on my 2 x Grt Gran's BCert. her parents are John Straughan and Jane nee Clark in Seaham Colliery. (her sister Mary Jane's B Cert also). When I looked through the census reports I can only find a John Straughan b. 1840 in Willington Quay in Northumberland whos wife is also Jane. Johns parents are Robert and Jane (Young ?) their first child was born in 1860. in later census reports the family settle in Seaham Colliery.
When I looked at an entry for the marriage (1859) of John Straughan and Jane Clark in Seaham Colliery on Durham Records Online it gives his father's name as John Straughan. There appears to be no other matches.
I cannot find any other entry on the census for a John Straughan with his fathers name of John Straughan.
Can you please help. as I am now confused.
