Hi Michelle
Thanks for the reply,I know you are snowed under.
I really don`t have any firm evidence as to his date of death or where he is buried, just his grandaughters recollection of when she thinks he died, and the address of his wife when she died, and the date of her death ( as she was stated as the widow of `George` Landymore )
I will keep looking and perhaps the local reg office may be able to come up with something as you say.
Thankyou very much for trying michelle,I do appreciate it
best wishes,cathy x

Hi Michelle

I'm hoping you can help me with this family:

William John Oakes m Annie Walker in 1895 at St Mary's Church, Gt Budworth, Cheshire.

I found them on the 1911 census:
William John Oakes, b1872, age 39
Annie Oakes, b1875, age 37
Jennie Oakes, b1896, age 15 .... b1896 MAR Northwich 8a 263
John William Oakes, b1899, age 12 ... b1898 SEP Northwich 8a 262
Gladys Oakes, b1904, age 7 .... b1904 JUN Northwich 8a 263

I have no idea where William and Annie were born.

Could you see if you could find the family on any earlier census please

Kind Regards

Angie

Hi Michelle

Ive got Johns marriage cert. He was 40 when he got married and Martha was 26, big gap. His father was John Manners, soldier, deceased. The witnesses were William and Mary Gretton and they married at what looks to be Sheffield Parish Church on 27.10.1878.
The spelling of his fathers name could read Mannear. A GR member told me that spellings of surnames did change due to peoples inability to read and write properly. Dont know if this will help
Thanks for your help
Nicky

Hi Michelle

Thanks for the info... sorry, haven't got back to you sooner...

Emily Kivles (or Hives)marriage certificate states that at the time of her marriage in April 1882, her father John was a Labourer. Her marriage certificate states that she was also living at Fowler Street.

Witnesses at the wedding were Robert Anderson and Clara Annie Sanderson.

Hope that helps...

Hi Michelle,
Can you please give me the details of this family in Peebles ,Peebleshire in 1891-James Inglis born 1843 in Biggar,Lanarkshire.I got it once before but didn't think it was the person I'm looking for.My James Inglis married a Marion Muir Somerville in Eddleston,Peebles in 1874.I can't find either of them in 1881 and no sign of any children. However ,the marriage certificate says he was a cotton merchant and I remember the 1891 James Inglis in Peebles was also a cotton merchant but with a different wife.
Many thanks,
Joan

Hi Michelle

Thanks for your kind offer.

Was wondering if you could see if you could find HERBERT SALT, born 1861c, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire on any of the earlier census. He is listed as a widower and a Limestone Quarryman on the 1911 census, living in Dove Holes, Derbyshire.

Have come across him living with my great Gran just days before she gave birth to my Grandad, who took Herbert's name. He then later changed it when he was older (have only just found all this out).

Any info that you might find on Herbert would be a great help. Thanks

Dawn

hello again Michelle-many thanks for all your effort. It's the last list -the Tantah House one -that I think is likely to be the one.James Inglis is the right age, born Biggar and in the cotton business as his 1874 marriage reg.to Marion Muir Somerville states.I found this for 1881-Euphemia Inglis age 27 born Innerleithen, son James Inglis age three born Peebles, with her parents Robert Mathieson ,a farmer,in Edderston,Peebles but no sign of husband James.Perhaps he was abroad? Can you try for him in 1881 and this family in 1901 please. Many thanks,
Joan

Thasnk you so much for the long, long list Michelle. It was quite a surprise to see the occupations.I've tried to find Marion Inglis' death on Scotlandspeople in the 1870s without any luck. I shouldn't think divorce was likely in those days .I'm wondering whether the first son for James, also James,in the 1891 census you gave me earlier could be Marion's son rather than Euphemia's.He's no longer with the family in 1901-he should be about 23 and was born Peebles. The two marriages seem awfully close.

Hi Michelle,

Can you find the following family in the '61 & '71 census please.

Henry Hanson born 1822, Doncaster.
Catherine Hanson, born 1825, Ireland.
Henry Kay Hanson, born 1856, Calcutta.
Ernest Hanson, born 1861, Aldershot.

Henry was still in the army (53rd Regt) in 1861, possibly a yeoman warder in Tower of London in 1871.

Thanks

Chris

hi Michelle,
James Inglis married Marion Muriel Somerville 7th July 1874 at Stewarton,Eddleston,Peebles. He puts cotton merchant as his occupation ,age 30 and born Biggar. His parents are James Inglis and Agnes Clark;hers are John Somerville and Isabella Melrose. I can't find anything more on them-no children, not in the 81 census,no death reg.
I've just gone back on Scotlandspeople and found his second marriage 17th July 1877 to Euphemia. It is definitely the same fellow. He is widowed on the new marriage reg. so that's sorted ,Michelle, but can you still help me look for the son, also James, born around 1877 in Peebles in the 1901 if you have a moment. Many thanks for all your help,
Joan
