All I know is that he married my relative Edith Goodwin in 1912 in Malling, Kent. His name there is spelt Jessie for some reason. (freebmd)

Can't find him on the IGI and don't know about his parents unfortunately. Really sorry I can't help more.

Thank you for looking at James & Mary Allcock for me - I think its a trip to the records office for me !

James & Mary had a brother called George Chesters Allcock [after his father] born in 1853.

George junr married Sarah Frances Done in 1879 [courtesy of Cheshire BMD who gave his name in full !]

I found - I thought ! - my Sarah F Allcock & George Allcock on the 1881 census - but am completely thrown off track as the census shows a sister Mary Allcock aged 16 and 2 brothers - Thomas age 15 and Henry aged 11 also living in the household.

There's no Mary age16, Thomas age15 or Henry age11 in the previous census ! ?!

Who put up that brick wall ?!

Could you have a look at the census returns for me - see if you can find them elsewhere ? Mary has given me a headache as it is :(

Been scratching my head this morn with your request!!Wow....i'm just going back to it now as i have been out working in the real world!!Didn't want you to think i haven't been working on it.

I still think we have the right people and i agree the 1881 certainly looks good to me!Mary again!!!!At 1st glance this morn i wondered if ages were just written down wrong and even wondered it Henry was a middle name for Ralph but he is with parents on the 1881.

So give me some time on this 1 and i will try and work it out!

I wonder if you can help me. I have hit 'that brick wall!'

I have just received a copy of the marriage cert. for my Gt. Gt. Grandmother & Gt Gt Grandfather which is great, but I'm having no luck whatsoever in finding her father.

This is the information shown of the wedding cert. of 13th September 1863 for the marriage of Thomas Steven Brisley and Eliza Allibone.

It shows the residence as Chatham, Kent and her fathers name as John Evans Allibone with a profession as Musician. I have found the Allibone family on the census' but without the John ever being present, but showing the head of house as Eliza (which would be my Eliza's mother) as married. It is my guess he could well have been in the forces as there were I think a Royal Marines Barracks and another army barracks close by, as well as the Royal Naval Base. Based on the census records I can put the year of birth for Eliza snr. at around 1821 so he was probably of similar age, but of course thats pure guesswork on my part.

The one thing I know for sure is that he is certainly an illusive character that is causing me a major headache!

Hello again Michelle

I have some more information that has turned up in todays post via a birth certficate. Eliza was born in 1845 (20th July). and her birth registered on what looks like the 20th August 1845.

Firstly on the marriage certificate it shows the witnesses as William Joseph Webb and Ann Webb (I believe these to be Eliza's parents) The marriage cert. is dated in 1863 and shows Eliza as being 20, so I guess age wasn't recorded properly back then.

On Eliza'a brith certificate it shows her father as John Evans Allibone and her mother as Eliza Allibone (Formerly Webb) and the place of birth as Cross Street, Chatham. His occupation on the marriage certificate is Musician and on the birth certificate as Boot Maker.

On the 1851 census the family are shown as Allborn (I think - but it is definately them and the handwriting is hard to read) on Ancestry and on the 1861 as Allibone. In neither case is John present, but he was still around when Eliza married in 1863. On the 1861 census Eliza is also missing but shows as a visitor and cousin to a Durling family, also in Chatham. I hope this helps.
