Great work Michelle,
If I wanted to know what they did for a living before marriage ,would I have to purchase both certs?
When I first joined Genes a few years back ,you could see what people did and who else were in the family
At least I have something to work on
I think it is more interesting to make up your tree with what they did
I have my grandmother on one side as a tent maker!
thanks Michelle

Hi,
I am trying to find info. on my Grandfather, Alban Stuart (Stewart?) Turner. He was born in St. Albans, Hertfordshire in 1905 to Edward John Turner (b.1864) and Lucy Aldridge (b.1869). For a time Alban lived with his wife Doris Leefar with his parents, in a large house called Gainsborough House, Branch Road in the parish of St. Michaels in St. Albans. He and Doris had 3 children- Alma, Avis and Edward. Gainsborough House burnt down after a 2nd fire in apprrox. mid 1930's. (This was reported in the local newspaper "The Herts Advertiser"). Alban and Doris seperated shortly after this and I think he may have eventually settled in wales. I think he died late 1950's - mid 1960's, possibly in Swansea.
If you can help in any way or at least give me advice on the best way to go about getting the information I need, I would very much appreciate it.
Regards,
Amanda Pipe

Obtaining the marriage cert of 1929 will show you both father's names and their occupations and will also show you the occupations of the couple. You only need the 1929 cert for that.If you wanted to confirm birthyears you would need to get the poss birth certs.

Good luck with your tree and you know where i am if you need assistance in the future.

You will need to obtain the marriage cert of William and Ellen to get futher with this.Unless you know where the couple were born??London is a big place and there are several possibles for both of the couple.I need more info to pinpoint the correct 1's.Hoping the father's name plus a poss witness name may help.

I know more certs!!But 1921 is a long time after William's birthyear and Ellen having a Scottish surname could have been born anywhere?Lets cross fingers the cert helps.

Scott Report 27 Jan 2009 18:38

Hi Michelle,
I managed to piece together all the information you supplied me a few days ago about the Gurner family, and all seems to fit. I have ordered the certificates you suggested just to confirm parents and dates etc.
I wondered if you would be-able to help out with another part of the family.
My grandmother knows very little about her parents and her grandparents as she was evacuated during the second world war at a young age and was never reunited with them.
My grandmother is called Joyce Wright, born 1930. She was born in London, I think in East Ham, but it may possibly be West Ham. Her parents were Samuel Wright and Florence Moate. Samuel's parents were Gerorge Wright and Mary (maiden name unknown), whilst Florence's parents were Arthur Moate and Charlotte Buw. She hasn't got any ideas about there birth years, siblings or proffessions, and also doesn't know if they themselves were born in London.
Is this enough information to find anything at all about my grandmother's side of the family at all? I really am stuck.

Thanks
Scott

Did she have any brother's or sister's Joyce?I am trying to find the marriage of Samuel and Florence. There is 1 quarter i can't get up and that is 1925 Q4 whether records for that quarter are missing?i have searched most of 1925-1931 and no marriage as yet and it would be useful to know if there were children before Joyce to narrow the search down.

I just did a search of the 1911 for a Samuel Wright born in 1906-thought it was worth a try and it came up with a Samuel Henry Wright in West Ham aged 5.I then did the same search with a George in the household of a Samuel Henry Wright and the same Samuel came up.This means there was a George in the house.Did the same search again with a Mary in the house with the Samuel Henry Wright i found and again a match. So this means that there is a Samuel Henry Wright on the 1911 with a George and Mary in the household and in West Ham area.I could not look at the transcript cos i do not have any credits left on the 1911-spent loads on my own tree!too many!!Might be worth you having a look if you don't mind paying for a poss waste of credits?
