Hi there well been reading about the Akbar and quite shocking reading.The Akbar remained in use until Monday December 2nd 1907, when the old sailing ship, unable to weather any further service, was towed away to the breaker's yard. The school transferred to Heswall on the Wirral, under the new title of a Nautical Training School, where it continued to function until its closure in 1956.Too much to paste on here so here are the sites i found:

There are a few to choose from on the 1871 so can't say for certain which is the right Sarah George.This Lambeth marriage was the only 1 that is around the right time for a Joseph marrying a Sarah so must be her-unless they never married?Would be advisable to get the marriage cert to see who the father's are.I will tomorrow look to see if i can find the correct Joseph on the 1861-71 to see who his father is.

Before you read any further, most of the following doesn't help at all!

I don't know England very well; I was there as a student many years ago. I have spent my adult life either in the US or here in Switzerland. We do go over occasionally to visit, and see friends and relatives mainly west of London (although the last two visits have been for funerals); also so that our children know a little about their English heritage.

Staffs reply deals primarily with Sophia and Emma because that was where my questions lay. They do comment on Joseph's marriage (to Sarah Bate) that the birth of their first child seems to have been before the marriage. They also refer to another Joseph Perry born illeg. of another Sarah Perry in 1811 at Willenhall. Finally, that Joseph and Sarah are names which occur frequently!!!

That is Joseph! This IGI is the only reference to "Joseph and Sarah" at all, with Joseph as an only child apparently from the records we have. I do wonder if there is an error here. What is also strange is that Sarah is the mother of an illegitimate daughter, our Emma (1819), who was born quite a while after Joseph (1809), again assuming that it is the same Sarah, and that might make her a widow at that time. I don't think this can be the case: had she married a Perry (Joseph, father of Joseph) then her original name was not Perry and she was not the daughter of Thomas and Mary.

Another curiosity about the IGI data is that they give two Sarah's as daughters of Thomas and Mary:

On the positive side it turns out that there are branches of the Mormon Church in Switzerland, and I was in Zürich yesterday to look at a copy of the Bishop's transcripts from Brewood which they have had sent over from the US. I have established that it is incomplete, extremely difficult to read (some of the entries are illegible, and some are written in a strange but beautiful-looking writing that I can't read at all). I plan to go through it and find what there is to be found about my early ancestors; hopefully something about Joseph too.

I do wonder if the entries I have, say from IGI, are dealing with branches of the same family which split before the records started, so a relationship between them cannot be established. This would give names hopping in and out of the records (IGI, say) which should not be or can't by linked.

Good luck with those records...oh i do wish the writing was more normal in those days!!Its so hard for me too i read census records alot and i have such trouble trying to work words out-especailly addresses.I guess if these people who wrote the census records knew how important they would prove to be 150 years later they would have written nice and neat for us!!

Sorry for the delay in replying - only just logged on again.

My Matthew and Esther Sutton would have been travelling from Canada, or possibly USA, as they were headed back to New York in January 1947. i expect they travelled during the autumn of 1946. (Long journey to make in those days, and as far as I know, It was the only time they came home after emigrating in 1920s to we believe Saskatchewan, Canada.)

I wonder if you could help me? I am looking for any details of the family of Mary Reid (born June 1904) who is my grandmother. She had several siblings (Jack/John bc1902, Margaret c1906, Thomas 1908, Edmund C1910 -c1917 (?) and Denis (Dennis) 1913 -c1937. I think that she was born in London (but maybe Ireland).
I have a birth certificate for her but am beginning to wonder if it is the right one as can find no matching info.

Would be so grateful for any help. My mother lost touch with her family in the 1950's and is now keen to find out about them My grandmother Mary died in 1996 and there is no one left to ask.

Is there any information you could search to get information on where he was living at time of death or on the children .Also William Edden Smith born 1886 Daventry ,he may have been in Bruntingthorpe as i think that where Ellen Smith born 1851 Eydon was in 1923 when she died .She was his mother his father John died 1924 in Arley .On Ellens death cert it just says Bruntingthorpe no address and the informants initial was not clear .
