I found a possible death for the couple??

Will check the 1871 and 1881 again just to be certain. Like you say though so many Taylor's but this looks like a good possible. My gut feeling is the parents John and Elizabeth died before the 1851 and did see a few possible death records for them between 1841-51

Hi Michelle,
You are like greased lightening, so quick LOL
Given the deplorable slums at that time in Coventry, plus the epidemics of all kinds of terrible things and the short life span I can imagine that John and Elizabeth and maybe the eldest daughter Elizabeth ('41 aged 15) did die between the '41-'51 census. In the 10 years between '41 and '51 I have found 9 deaths for a John Taylor and 6 deaths for an Elizabeth Taylor, which would send me to the 'Workhouse' if I bought all the certs.
What you have found on a Mary Ann Taylor is much more than what I have found, so I'm going to order her marriage cert, that way I'll know who her father was and I can follow it up, because I don't think that John and Elizabeth were her parents - just wish that the '41 census gave relationships !
Gosh I can't stand this message thingo, everytime I type something it dissapears and I can't see what I am typing !
I'm off to check out what you have found,
Mardi.

I know there were quite a few possible deaths between 1841-51 and i would say they are dead by the 1851. Only thing i can suggest is to get them 1 by 1, or maybe ring the records office and ask if their is any possibilty they could find the correct one. Also worth posting on the Records Office whether any kind person who lives in Coventry area could look for you when they are next at the records office. Mary ann is a good possible but make sure to check all details when cert comes before adding her to your tree. Hope info helps. Do you know where John marrried? i saw a marriage in 1815 in Coventry to an Elizabeth wondered if that was him?

Hi there!Yes i have worked on yours before quite a long time ago though. Sorry to hear you are still stuck on the brick wall. May i ask you how you know the birthplaces for the couple if you cannot find them on the census records? I saw the Hounslow Florence you mentioned and it's tricky cos father's occupation at the time of 1901 doesn't match does it. Are you certain also that Robert was born in England? Can you give anymore details? Have you got the death certficate for Robert?what was his age at death? I presume this is the Florence you have been looking at on 1901?
1901 England Census about Florence A Roberts Name: Florence A Roberts Age: 19 Estimated birth year: abt 1882 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Elizabeth Gender: Female Where born: Hounslow, Middlesex, England Civil parish: Heston Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Street Address:

The 1911 shows George the father as a widowed Carpenter and the brother George Kirkman as a Soldier so yes looks like for some reason her brother is listed as the father on the marriage record??
Here is the info from the 1911

Was obviously very close to his sister with all the Florence names in his children's names.

I wonder if George father was not happy about Florence's choice of partner?maybe this is why George brother was listed?

You might find this interesting reading about the school the possible Elizabeth i found went to
The building of the South Metropolitan District School started in 1852 to educate poor children from Greenwich, Camberwell St Olave' s (Southwark) and Woolwich., The original building bore the date 1853 but it was not completed for several years. It stood on the about a mile south of the centre of Sutton on the west side of the railway line to Belmont and Banstead Downs where Sevenoaks Close is now.
By modern standards it must have been a grim place although at the time it was considered well equipped and comfortable. Apart from the school rooms there was a chapel, a room for play in wet weather, a large swimming pool and workshops where the boys learnt a trade. A hospital and doctor's residence was added later.
The original building housed both boys and girls. A separate girls school was later added a short distance away on the opposite side of the railway. A different system was followed when this built. Instead of one large barrack like block there were six self contained blocks with its own kitchen and laundry, each designed for 100 girls, There was also and administrative block, a school block and a large room used for religious purposes and lectures.
In the mid-1890s the school had about 1400-1500 pupils. Each boy had to chose a trade to lean, the main options being carpentry, shoemaking, tailoring, painting, plumbing, bricklaying, baking or garden and farm work. The school had a band and several boys went on to serve in army bands. The older boys assisted in cleaning the dormitories and day and school rooms in their school.
The girls were mostly trained to be domestic servants and they carried out the greater part of the general domestic work in their areas.
The school was closed in 1902. After a brief period as a hospital and asylum the it became Belmont Workhouse in 1908

Not 100% positive that is your Lizzie but area of the school covered Camberwell and details matched...i am guessing the mother couldn't manage all the children at home on her own? Most of the girls in the school went on to work in the local area as servants. Don't know whether the boys would have gone there?I presume not they would have stayed at home then gone to work to help the mother i presume when they were around 13 or so. What other info did you require?
