Referring to his obituary that Linda posted earlier: "OBITUARY: Browell.-At the union home.Colorado Springs.America On Nov 30th.aged 35yrs. James Martin. Son of Hannah Jane and the late William Henry Browell and beloved husband of Thomasin Browell of this city- Evening Chronicle 1893.
The Evening Chronicle is in Newcastle upon Tyne, England."
To me, it sounds like Thomasin was still living in England. Well done on finding all of the census returns! It certainly does look like you both found her, eh?

***alviegal***.Jeanette & Lisa.
How Brilliant are you all. I cannot believe you have found Thomasina. I am absobutely overwhelmed & many thanks for your help on this family of mine.
***alviegal***
Can you give me the Address of where the family lived on the Census please., if it is`nt too much trouble.
So I take it Thomasina may have went to Usa, then returned back to Uk after James Death.
I shall get one of the boys birth Certificates to confirm this,
You are all Stars.
Many Thanks again. Linda.

Hi Linda: I'm not convinced that Thomasin ever went to America. I can't find her or the boys entering America and I guess other's cannot find her returning. I have a couple of ancestors who left England and settled in Canada then a couple of years later the families joined the husbands in Canada.
If I remember correctly, all of Thomasin's children were born before he left England?
Looking back over the posts...he possibly arrived in America November 1888 and was in the union home by 1893. So, let's say he settled in Colorado around 1890 or so. Then, possibly was going to send for the family, but became ill before they could get here. If family and friends were not allowed to see their husbands, there wouldn't be a reason to bring the young children all the way to Colorado. I believe it would have been a difficult journey once they arrived in America; possibly too risky or expensive to travel a great distance to be with someone who could not see them.

Hi Lisa,
I was thinking on the same lines as you, after I posted my last message.James going alone on the Journey... I will continue looking and find marriages for the boys if I can. I believe that Liz and Jeanette have found Thomasin, but will get a birth certificate of one of the boys.
Gateshead,Durham is only a train ride away from Newcastle upon Tyne.
I will also look for the Marriage of Thomasin & her husband Michael too.
I am extremely grateful to you all for helping me on this Journey the help & support has been tremendous.
Linda x

Linda, I've enjoyed myself. I love reading about history and enjoy learning more. I would love to hear about any results. (You're so lucky that the possible census returns were found in England, too!) I wish I had that kind of luck.

Hi Linda, they were living at 71 Elswick Street, Gateshead in 1901. I couldn't find a marriage when I had a quick look. That was a lot of fun, thank you, but what a sad, sad story if they never met again. James would not have seen his youngest child and perhaps that's another reason the family did not emigrate. Perhaps William was too ill to travel and by that time the father had also become ill. Please keep us posted with whatever you find as I would love to know if you find living relations etc.
Liz

I am pleased to hear I have`nt bored you with my story. James came from a family of 9 children including my Gt Grandfather Robert, there was about 6 of them all died by the age of 40yrs. with the Surname `Browell` being rare I have found them fairly easy to follow.
Hopefully, I may have more news to give very soon.
Most grateful. Linda x

Wow she doesn't seem to have much luck with her husbands does she? I wonder which one she married.
Marriages Sep 1904 (>99%) Henry Thomas Gateshead 10a 1508 Scan available - click to view McMullen Thomason Barker Gateshead 10a 1508 Scan available - click to view Peacock Jane Elizabeth Gateshead 10a 1508 Scan available - click to view Richardson Sarah Gateshead 10a 1508 Scan available - click to view Veitch Anthony Mossman Gateshead 10a 1508 Scan available - click to view
There is a Veitch/Peacock and some Henry/Richardson births showing in Gateshead so she possibly married the missing groom.

Looking at the image, she should be on page 1507 which is this one.
Marriages Sep 1904 (>99%) Keys Thomas Gateshead 10a 1507 Scan available - click to view Robson Jonas Selby S Gateshead 10a 1507 Scan available - click to view Walters Mary Jane Gateshead 10a 1507 Scan available - click to view
There is a birth for Robson/Walters so maybe she married Thomas Keys. Obviously this is all guess work and you would need the certificate to be certain.
The only birth for Keys in Gateshead after 1904.
Births Mar 1905 (>99%) Keys Mary Gateshead 10a 997
