Worth a try!

I don't have worldwide Ancestry at the moment so I couldn't narrow it down and home in.

And I should have known that question of mine was going to look a tad silly.

:-D

ArgyllGran Report 21 Mar 2018 21:33

Yes, I know what you meant, JC - it just sounded funny. Sorry!

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 21 Mar 2018 21:31

Looking at whitepages.com.au, there's someone with surname Vincent in Mullumbimby, where Bernard Baynard was in 1980.

Just possibly a relation?

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 21 Mar 2018 21:29

Ahem, ArgyllGran. :-)

He must have been the father of the *biological* aunt's husband, i.e. of Darealjolo's uncle-in-law!

Because if Bernard was the father of her *biological* uncle, he would be Darealjolo's parent's father, too, i.e. Darealjolo's grandfather!

I don't tend to describe my grandfather as my uncle's father. :-D

... Now, the other possibility is that Darealjolo's uncle has a different father from her parent, and so her parent and her uncle are half-siblings ... true.

And that might just be the case here, given that Bernard's first wife remarried ...

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 21 Mar 2018 21:22

I had to laugh hysterically, JC -

" . . . . if he was your uncle's father, your uncle must be your aunt's husband?"

For info, the only birth/marriage/death record of a Bernard B Vincent (other than the mistranscribed marriage above) is

Marriages Jun 1948
Vincent Bernard B - Jones - Harrow 5f 1044

so there does seem to have been a divorce, or at least a remarriage (Alice remarried later as well). The second wife's name is far too common to identify her birth/death or previous marriage, or any children of that marriage.

His marriage certificates seem to be the essential place to start for any more info (age and father's name he reported).

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 21 Mar 2018 19:59

Sometimes one can't resist ...

Did Bernard's parents marry only one year before he did??

Marriages Sep 1942
Broadway Alice D -Vincent- Uppingham 7a 975
Vincent Bernard R -Broadway- Uppingham 7a 975
- note that the image says Bernard B, not Bernard R

Marriages Sep 1941
BOW Muriel E -VINCENT- East Ham 4a 363
Vincent Herbert H -Bow- E. Ham 4a 363

Seems unlikely ... there were Vincent-Bow births through the 1940s/50s.

Two deaths for Bernard Vincent born 1918

Bernard Walter Vincent 3 Aug 1918 - Dec 1972 Sheffield Yorkshire West Riding

Bernard Harry J Vincent 21 May 1918 - Nov 1989 Bath Avon

the matching births:

Births Sep 1918
Vincent Bernard W mother Darwin Sheffield 9c 936

Births Jun 1918
Vincent Bernard H J mother Welsford Wells 5c 558

BHJ Vincent (name seems possible) married Violet Vaughn 1943 Bath

Obviously neither of those births have parents who match the info in the OP.

I hope Rebecca has got it sorted out since then!

Darealjolo, if he was your uncle's father, your uncle must be your aunt's husband?

Quite a few people have a Bernard Vincent 1918 in their trees here

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/tree/results/vincent/bernard?yearofbirth=1918

some with no place of birth, some with Uppingham, so one suspects that those entries are the same man. Several of them also have

Alice Broadway 1916 Uppingham,Rutland

and one has

Herbert Vincent 1895 Unknown

His death:

Herbert Harry Vincent 9 May 1895 - Jun 1972 Cheltenham Gloucestershire

Births Jun 1895 ?
Vincent Herbert Harry Islington 1b 328

1911 in Battersea

Harry Thomas Vincent 42
Minnie Vincent 40
Herbert Harry Vincent 15
Albert Cyril Vincent 7

One person has in their tree at this site:

Albert Vincent 1903 14 Charlwood Place, Pimlico, London

There is no Herbert H Vincent marriage between 1911 and 1926.

The spouse in the 1926 marriage in Bournemouth was:

Births Jun 1898
GAME Daisy Ethel Christchurch 2b 660

Daisy Ethel Vincent 29 May 1898 - Sep 1969 Exeter Devon

I wonder whether that couple had children before marriage ...

Births Mar 1915
GAME Herbert C Game Ongar 4a 1023
Births Dec 1916 (died March Q 1918)
Game Harry W S Game Billericay 4a 1117
Births Jun 1917
Game Ellen F Game W.Ham 4a 445
Births Dec 1918
Game Ethel M Game Ongar 4a 680
Births Dec 1919
Game Harry F M Game Bromley 2a 1064

... the names certainly fit! But no Bernard.

1939 register

Herbert H Vincent 1902 (no such 1902 birth; 1903 only)
Daisy E Vincent 1898
1 more person who is officially closed

The 1939 register shows no Bernard Vincent born between 1915 and 1920, and no Bernard B Vincent.

A 1942 marriage does suggest wartime ... and possibly a man not born in England.

I wondered about

Name: Herbert Vincent
Birth Date: abt 1895
Age: 32
Port of Departure: Rangoon, Burma
Arrival date: 7 May 1927
Port of Arrival: London, England
Ports of Voyage: Colombo
occupation: Accountant
country of last permanent residence: Iraq

but NO, that was very probably Herbert Basil Vincent 1895 who has another passenger record from the East.

I give up! :-)
