Hi Margaret

Thanks a million for all this info!!

I wonder if I can be really cheeky and ask another couple of questions?

RICHARD FOX Can you tell me what old year means? I have a note about a will dated 1741? Can you throw any light on that? Any idea of birth year?

RICHARD FOX b 1760 d 1819 Did he marry and have children?

THOMAS b 1762 d 1835 re-married 1802. Assume you mean FOX not Smith? Did he and Ann Hayes have any children?

THOMAS + MARTHA

Can you give me any info on other children ie. Thomas b 1787, Elizabeth b 1793, Sussanah b 1795, Charlotte b 1798 and George b 1800. I think I have some for the males but the girls are harder to track down after marriage!!?

Last one!!! Does buried Swalcliffe mean the churchyard?

Thanks again in advance!

Regards
Jane

Charlotte bapt 1/1/1798 private bapt rec'd into church 17/4/1798

George bapt 24/10/1800 Swalcliffe as all above are.

I must say that the Richard entry above is a bit queer, as no parents are named on the rec'd into church as was normal, but as there is no baptism it is just a guess that he belongs to Thomas Fox and Martha. Leave him off if you are dissatisfied.

Also there is a burial for a John Fox 21/12/1790 Swalcliffe for an infant. the only one about that has been baptised is the 11/7/1788 one for Thomas Foxand Martha. but I think you descend from that baptism. so it is a mystery.

Please excuse weird typing, computer keeps leaving out spaces between words.... right pain.

Hi Margaret

My family is FOX

My Gr Gr Gr Grandad JOHN FOX b1788 Swalcliffe or Sibford Gower, married Jane Hall, Monks Kirby, Warwicks 1820. they had 7 children inc my Gr Gr Grandad GEORGE b 1823 Barford Warwicks.

I believe my Gr Gr Gr Gr Grandad to have been THOMAS FOX b 1762 also Swalcliffe married Martha Smith 1784 Epwell or Swalcliffe. Things get a bit vague for me from then, I think Thomas & Martha had 7 children but I don't have much info on John's b 1788 siblings or Thomas b 1762 parents (think they could be JOHN FOX b 1727 Swalcliffe and Elizabeth French)?

I would be very grateful if you could do some research for me. I have John b1788 on the 1861 census (Sibford Gower) and believe he died in 1863??

I would be interested in any deaths and where these, my ancesters could be buried.

Thanks in advance!

Regards
Jane

Hi again Margaret,

If your records go as far as 1935, please could you check this marriage?

I've tried FreeBMD but guess it hasn't been transcribed yet.

Harry Holifield married Helen (maiden name unknown) on 3rd March 1935, at Stadhampton.

I would really love to know Helen's maiden name, and any details of her parents, please.

Many thanks,
Sue

Hi Margaret

It appears to be that the Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Lamberth (a shepherd),is in fact the former Elizabeth Bachelor.(parents of Ann Lamberth 1833,George 1835 & Mary Ann 1837

I found them on the 1841 in Chinnor (as Lambirth)with John Bachelor(1821) & also found George Lambert (decribed as brother) with John Bachelor on the 1861.in Middlesex

So your suspicions were correct, she apparently did remarry after all

Regards,
Eunice

Hi Margaret,

Thankyou for your time.
I guess that Elizabeth could have been born in another county & also married in the same county.,maybe Buckinghamshire as it it is so close.

James settled in Thame & lived there for the rest of his life.
So his mother could have moved there as well.

As you say she could have possibly remarried..

Thankyou again,
Eunice.

Hi Margaret, and anyone else down Oxfordshire way, or at least with an interest in Oxfordshire records.
I'm looking for the family of a Benjamin Smith, born around 1817/1818, census records say place of birth Henley Oxfordshire (is this Henley on Thames?) Margaret has found me one with father William and mother Hester which sounds promising, I would like to know if it is possible to find a marriage record for William Smith and Hester and if they had other children. The other Oxfordshire area which bugs me is around the Whitchurch area, the names Richard and Dinah Smith crop up, all around the late 1700's and early to mid 1800's. Any info on BMD's which could be connected to my Benjamin would be much appreciated, also Pangbourne Berkshire has come up, just over the border I believe.
The info about William being a soldier is interesting if it is the right family, got me thinking what "fighting" would have been in progress at that time in our history, guess I'll have to have a "google"!!
Any more info I can provide to help your look ups I'll do my best to provide.
Thanks again
Good wishes Karen.

PAUL
Ihave looked through the Burford transcript and there is no Rolph mentioned, there is a Tuck but not a G Tuck.
I looked in the Holy Trinity Church Witney and there is a baptism for
Alfred Richard Rolfe 10/3/1875 son of Richard and Mary Anne a french polisher
There are a few Rolfes in Witney but nomention of your George Rolph 1908
I suggest you contact Oxfordshire Family History Society you can do so by email, google it, and ask them if they have any information about a children's home or workhouse burning down. they have masses of stuff and are good at research. I am sorry not to have been any betterhelp.Margaret Rose

EUNICE
If we suppose that when William Bachelor married he was 21yrs of age, and that Hannah bapt 28/5/1815 Chinnor was his first child,he married about a year before, so c1814, less 21yrs = birth c 1794 or 1795
There is a William buried in Chinnor 27/11/1828 of Henton age 34 yrs.
So there you have his burial.
I have looked at the marriage disc, and there is no record of William's marriage in Oxfordshire to Elizabeth.
I havelooked at the Bledlow parish registers online at Launchberry site, and no marriage there,I have looked at the fiche for Princes Risborough, and no marriage there.
So you could ask Bucks Family History Society for a look up for a marriage in Bucks. There is a marriage in Princes Risborough for James Bachelor to Mary Bowden 11/12/1819 bothof Longwick, which is not too far from Henton indeed just down the Lower Ickneild way..
I wonder as there is no record of a burial for Elizabeth Bachelor in Chinnor, perhaps she remarried, I will now have a quick look to see if she did so. If you hear no more, I cannot find one.
Sorry not to have any decent information, Margaret East
