Margaret, you are a star !!!!

I now have a marriage for Amelia in London and Jane is a witness so that's another confirmed sister. After the 4 children you have found, they had another 6 in Hammersmith before the last child Mary who was born in Witney about 1831. Thomas is indeed a baker on some of the children's marriage records on Ancestry.

Elizabeth remarried in London in 1833 so Thomas must have died about 1831/32 but it is unclear where. Elizabeth seems to have been born between 1793 and 1797 - probably closer to the earlier date given Amelia's baptism in 1813. I notice that is before the marriage you found of Thomas Harris to Elizabeth Nickols - i wonder if that means that isn't the right one? I don't suppose it said his profession on the marriage ?

I can't thank you enough for all of your help. You've demolished a massive brick wall for me :-)

RIck.

RICK
10/1/1813 Amelia daughter Thomas and Elizabeth he a baker of Hailey
30/10/1814 Jane ditto
26/5/1816 William ditto
27/2/1820 thomas ditto
all baptised Hailey Oxfordshire.
I don't know when Thomas senior died from your post, or where, but there is a discrepancy of baptisms and burials on the transcript of

Thomas Harris bapt Hailey 6/5/1781 son of Jonathan and Elizabeth, I seem to have buried all the rest of the Thomas' off.
Hope he is the one you need. Kindest regards Margaret East

Hi Margaret,

I think we may be on to something with that last marriage. I must admit I didn't know how close Crawley and Hailey were to Witney so you have given me a really big clue there. Looking through the censuses and LMA records for Hammersmith and Notting Hill I have found two more older siblings for the family and their place of birth says Hailey.

Could I beg another favour and ask if there are baptisms in Hailey for any of these children for Thomas and Elizabeth ?

Amelia about 1814
William about 1816
Thomas about 1817

Thanks again.

Rick.

Hi Margaret

Do you have any record of a baptism or burial of Aaron Stevens in the parish records?

I cannot see an entry on the register of deaths and his age keeps changing on the census records.

Thanks for your time

Hi Margaret

I'm having trouble locating family after 1851. My GGG grandfather on my GG grandfathers birth certificate was Aaron Stevens, who seems to have disappeared after that date.

The wife of a Henry Stevens and children are right on the 1861 census but there is another sister. Could you please let me have the details on the birth certificate for the following entry.

Births Dec 1857 Stevens - Rhoda Ann - Henley - 3a 465

Many thanks

Terry

Hi Margaret,

I'm very grateful for the lookups but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be them.

On a brighter note, the reason I know that is I had a stroke of luck after I posted and stumbled on a much older brother, Thomas and through him some other siblings. Most were born in Hammersmith, but Thomas was born about 1817 in Oxfordshire and on one census it says "Oxford".

If it is not too much trouble, could you check for a baptism for Thomas and a marriage for his parents a few years earlier - about 1816 ?

Thanks again for you time and trouble.

Rick.

Hi Margaret I think you were kind enough to help me a few years back. Hope you are well.
Do you have any actual parish records of Woodstock or Chipping Norton please.
I am trying to find some baptism details of my gt grandmother's half siblings
Her father was William Stroud and his second wife Elizabeth Osborne, they lived at Woodstock
they had James William Stroud 1876
Susannah Lily 1878
Mary Ann 1881
then their children's marriages please if that is possible.
James William married Maud Gomm
but do not know about Susannah or Mary.

Also a death in Chipping Norton for 1945 perhaps that is a bit late for parish records Bertha Herman age 53 died last quarter of 1945.
Many thanks and kind regards Irene

There are no baptisms in Witney St Mary nor the various denominations ie Quaker, for a Mary Harris. c 1831
But there are Harris baptisms in Hailey a chapelry of Witney for Harris'

Mary bapt Hailey 20/3/1831 daughter of Mark and Ann he a spinner
Mary daughter of William and Esther 22/7/1832 he a labourer
Mary Ann 9/4/1837 daughter Solomon and Mary he a spinner
Mary 11/11/1839 daughter of Samuel and Mary he a carpenter

There are two marriages of Thomas at about the right date in Witney
Thomas Harris married Elizabeth Viner 2/11/1822
Thomas Harris married Jane Viner 2/10/1820
no children from either in Witney

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for your kind offer. I'm hoping you can solve a little mystery for me. I'm looking for Mary Ann Harris or Harriss born around 1831 in Witney. With any luck her father will either be Thomas or John Thomas and her mother Elizabeth.

If you do manage to find her I'd be interested to know if she has any siblings or if you can find her parents' marriage.

Thanks again,

Rick.
